A vast warehouse on an industrial estate in the wilds of Alexandria is not the type of venue you’d normally associate with opera or where you’d expect the craziest party to bust loose. But this warehouse is actually the vast Aladdin’s cave in which Opera Australia store the incredible props from all their productions going back to days of yore. Last week, for the first time ever, the public were allowed to run wild in the treasure trove to end all treasure troves. And wild it certainly was!

No surprisop 2e that the décor was outstanding: giant giraffes and elephants, row boats, a Liberace-worthy white and gold piano, suits of armour, Persian rugs and miniature cars  mixed with expert spot lighting created an Alice in Wonderland atmosphere where everybody certainly let as loose as the Mad Hatter. A contrasting modern giant screen showing the obligatory Instagram photos (prizes of tickets went to those getting most creative with the props) and one heck of a DJ mixed snippets of opera with all kinds of dance music. MTV’s Krit certainly felt the vibe and got into a brilliant Vogue-off with another party-goer to the admiration and amusement of all.

The highlight was being taken on a tour of the underground vaults where literally thousands of artefacts and props are arranged. And they are all for hire to both professinals and the general public! So if you ever need any finishing touches for your am-dram play, Tropfest short or even just a special party, get in touch with them.
