The original Champagne Cocktail recipe was first published in 1862 by Professor Jerry Thomas and combined a lump of sugar with one- two dashes of Angostura bitters in a goblet of Champagne, served over ice with a twist of lemon peel.
Fast forward to today and Chandon Australia has just launched Chandon S- the ultimate aperitif refreshment. Made from a blend of Chandon sparkling and hand crafted orange bitters, Chandon S reimagines the original Champagne Cocktail for a refreshingly beverage that is perfect for consumption on hot Spring days.
Produced in the Yarra Valley at Domaine Chandon, Chandon S follows the same French methode traditionelle champagne making process as Chandon Brut but has a unique twist to the ‘dosage’ – a unique, Australian handcrafted orange bitters. Chandon S is the perfect example of Chandon’s traditional French heritage combined with modern Australian innovation.
The distinctive hand-crafted orange bitters in Chandon S was developed and made by the winemakers at the Chandon winery in the Yarra Valley. To create the perfect blend of bitters in every bottle of Chandon S, Chandon Australia winemakers experimented with a range of herbs, spices, citrus rinds and berries before settling on orange as the primary flavour as it was the most refreshing and delicious! The crafting process of the bitters took many, many hours and more than 300 kilograms of hand peeled oranges to get the flavour just right.
The final unique bitters flavour in Chandon S was created using seven natural, high quality, local ingredients including blood orange and navel orange peel, gentian root, fresh ginger, vanilla, cinnamon and green cardamom.
Chandon S is best enjoyed on a hot, sunny day served over ice with a twist of orange peel. It is refreshing, bitter, not too sweet and goes down an absolute treat!
Available from Dan Murphy’s and BWS. You can also enjoy Chandon S at a variety of great venues around the country. Chandon S retails for $29 per bottle
