It seems like Justin Hemmes and Merivale are forever spoiling us with amazing venues, and the trend well and truly continues on Tuesday 23rd November with the launch of The Paddington on Oxford Street!  Formerly the Paddington Arms, the venue has been re-imagined with a who’s who of the hospitality industry behind the wheel, and of course, an exciting Merivale twist.

Brilliant Executive Chef Ben Greeno, formally of Momofuku Seiobo, Michellin-starred Sat Bains and the world’s best restaurant Noma, (holy moly!)  leads the charge with a rotisserie-lead menu comprised entirely of his vision for the menu and the style of cooking he loves.

“I want to create food that lends itself to a good time, dishes that can be shared amongst friends. I thought, ‘why don’t we do rotisserie?’. There’s no reason why the food can’t be as good and complex as a high-end restaurant, even though it’s served in more casual surrounds,” said Greeno.

Just to wet your appetite, a sample of the deliciousness on offer includes lamb rump with red pepper and almonds; wagyu beef with artichokes, pickled mustard seeds and watercress; whole fish stuffed with olives, lemon and thyme; and of course, roast chicken with French fries.

If  you’re feeling the need to go straight for the drinks menu, you’re in good hands with Palmer and Co cocktail wizards Sam Egerton and Toby Marshall, who have built the menu from the ground up based on the world’s most-loved classic cocktails.  The lads created and blind-tasted 600 (yes 600, you read that right..) cocktails before deciding on the final line up, so our desire to start working our way through the list is pretty high right now!  As you’d expect, the wine selection, composed by Adrian Filiuta, winner of the 2015 Australian Ruinart Sommeliers Challenge, is also on point, and designed to perfectly pair with the food on offer, no matter what your budget or preferences.

A relaxed British charm featuring white glazed ceramic tiles, painted timber panelling and dark timber furniture promises to create a home away from home and a great place to catch up with mates, just what we look for in a pub! The perfect pairing of old school vibes, world-class comfort food and exciting drinks is sure to make The Paddington another well-deserved success for Merivale and a welcome addition to the Oxford Street bar-scene.
