I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years and I still can’t believe that I have only just recently had yum cha at Bodhi vegan restaurant for the first time!

We recently visited Bodhi on a sunny winters day and decided to dine in their stunning outdoor dinning area nestled between ancient Moreton Bay fig trees under St Mary’s Cathedral. As soon as we took our seats our feast began! Plates upon plates upon plates of dumplings, spring roles, vegetables and other delicious dishes were brought over to us and all of a sudden our table was filled with delicious vegan delights!

Bodhi has a strong emphasis on fresh ingredients and they use produce that is locally sourced and organic where possible. The food is prepared daily and hand crafted using traditional techniques by expert chefs. There are well over 30 dishes on the yum cha menu which made it very hard to decide what to eat. Some of our favourite dishes included chili smoked soy and beetroot dumplings; shiitake mushroom, asparagus, truffle oil dumplings and carrot, broccoli and ginger dumplings. We also enjoyed the rice paper sesame seed ‘prawn’ pillow; flaky ‘prawn’ taro ball and the glass noodle spring rolls.

To finish off the meal we shared some goodies from the dessert menu! We had the mango and vegan soy cream pancake (my absolute favourite) and the pandan sago with coconut cream. Both desserts were light, summery and super tasty and were the perfect end to the meal.

To accompany our yum cha we indulged in a few cocktails. The cocktail menu uses the very best organic herbs, fruits, fresh pressed juices and bespoke syrups. We enjoyed the Bodhilicious: Woodford reserve bourbon combined with fig liquour, bespoke fig puree, tiki bitters, old fashioned bitters & a laphroig spray; and also the Priscilla: 42 below vodka shaken with aperol, fresh pineapple juice, lime juice & passionfruit puree. Not only did these cocktails taste amazing they were strong too and had great names!

Bodhi is a must visit restaurant for vegans and non-vegans alike. The food and beverages are fresh, flavourful, imaginative and exciting. I could have spent all day there, sitting amongst the trees in the sunshine, sipping cocktails and grazing on dumplings! Heaven!
