Jackies Café, Sydney’s dining institution that inspired the city’s bohemian café culture, is opening its doors in the twilight hours from next month for Jackies By Night.
The much-loved Paddington institution has hosted the city’s creatives, eastern suburbs residents and the fashion crowd since the late 90s, with its courtyard regularly packed from early morning to afternoon. Jackies by Night will see the café open to patrons three nights a week serving an exclusive evening menu, new wine list and special cocktails.
Launching on 10 October, Jackies will be open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening from 5.30pm until 11pm, perfect timing for post-shopping drinks and al fresco dinners. Head chef Josh Booker has enhanced the popular menu with substantial main dishes and delicious sharing plates – new menu options include Salmon Caviar Boats, Teriyaki Glazed Quail with Korean radish salad, Okonomiyaki (a Japanese savoury pancake) and Braised Beef Rib with wasabi mash.
Chefs Tatsuo Ito and Masayuki Takegawa, who have been with Jackies for over a decade, will be manning the sushi bar creating the restaurants signature Japanese delicacies and the kitchen team are also serving three indulgent desserts for diners to linger over including Dark Chocolate Mousse with Miso Caramel. The café is mixing a selection of cocktails to enjoy in the courtyard on balmy evenings. Summer favourites including Aperol Spritz, Mojitos and Vodka Soda are set to be in demand, delicious sipped alongside a bowl of Edamame or Pork Gyoza, and Jackies will be serving Sake for the first time to complement its Japanese dishes.
The Jackies wine list has also been refreshed for restaurant-style evenings. On top of lunchtime wines available by the glass, a selection of premium wines will be available by the bottle in the evening. With a focus on local wineries, new additions include Wirra Wirra 12th Man Chardonnay from Adelaide Hills, Parish Riesling from Tasmania, Brokenwood Sangiovese Rose from Beechworth Victoria, Dalrymple Pinot Noir from Tasmania and Jim Barry Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra South Australia. Running with the Australia theme, Jackies offers Redbank Prosecco from King Valley, Victoria by the glass and the bottle, plus
bottles of Pol Roger champagne for evening celebrations.Lucy and Jono Bowman took over Jackies Café in mid 2017, continuing the legacy left by its late founder Jackie Milijash. The café is nestled in the heart of The Intersection, Paddington, Sydney’s ‘designer row’ of high end fashion boutiques and art galleries lined with pretty Jacaranda trees. Jackies Mediterranean courtyard, sandstone dining room and sushi bar attract celebrities, fashion personalities and Sydney influencers, many of whom have been regulars for over a decade.
Jackies By Night launches on Thursday 10 October with the venue open from 5.30pm – 11pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. For the first time in its history customers will have the opportunity to make table reservations at Jackies in the evenings, with a select number of tables available for walk-ins. The café continues to open from breakfast to 3pm every day.
