Here at Sydney Social 101 we’re very lucky and get to eat out at a lot of amazing places. We’re always so excited to hear about new places popping up in and around this wonderful city! When we heard about Moorish Blue,  North Sydney’s latest venue bringing vibrant flavours of Tunisia, Morocco and Spain, we couldn’t wait to tell you guys all about it!

According to a Commbank Signals’ report, in 2013 the average Australian ate out around four times a month and spent $70 a week at cafes, takeaway shops and restaurants; these figures rising in correspondence to the nation’s evident ‘food culture.’

Studies are showing this fascination with food is moving well past consumption. With the rise of millions of avid food bloggers worldwide, ‘food’ has been identified by the Sydney Morning Herald as the top category on Pinterest with 57% discussing food-related content; and tech analyst Telstye’s Australian Digital Consumer Study found well over 24 million searchable posts for the #foodporn hashtag as of April 2014.

So what do you get when you combine good food with even better social media-worthy interiors? The answer: Moorish Blue.

Located in the heart of North Sydney, Moorish Blue is one of the newest restaurants accepting the challenge to feast consumer’s hunger and eyes. With vibrant flavours of Tunisia, Morocco and Spain, Moorish Blue takes customers on an effortless journey from the Middle East to North Africa in an enlivening dining experience.

Restaurant owners, Jamil and Guy, state inspiration for Moorish Blue came from everything the 21st century consumer expects from their dining experience; good-looking and good-tasting food, aesthetic surroundings and the familiar feel of home. “The last part is probably the hardest to achieve,” says Jamil. “That is why instead of trying to transform a restaurant into a home, Moorish Blue is a home transformed into a restaurant.”

The home-turned-restaurant is a blogger’s playground, housing various elegant settings to suit your mood or occasion whilst maintaining many of its original domestic features. This includes the distinctive ‘homey’ staircase, leading diners from the main dining area to the Ottoman Lounge and upstairs ‘Tequila Bar’ and ‘Bridge Room’, offers picturesque views of Sydney’s iconic Harbour Bridge.

The latest setting to the Moorish Blue family is the distinctly Arabian themed ‘Shisha Oasis Garden’. This outdoor space has proved a popular attraction as a comfortable setting for a meal with family or a light dinner and drinks between friends.

Having already attracted an overwhelming public response in its first few months, Moorish Blue possesses a powerful potential for expansion.

Open to the public for lunch and dinner on weekdays, with a 9am start for breakfast on weekends, Moorish Blue caters for everything from intimate dining occasions to large-scale functions.
