If you love dinner with cocktails and a show with an incredible view, then The Ternary is definitely for you!

Located in Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour, The Ternary brings an air of casual sophistication and unique style and personality to all its guests. The Ternary is made up of three distinct offerings; The Grill Kitchen, The Asian Kitchen and the Wine Bar which are all brought together in a single, stylish open space with spectacular floor‐to‐ceiling views of the city skyline.

Sydney Social 101 recently headed to The Ternary for a very special and delicious date night dinner. We were seated ring side (or should I say ‘grill side’) at The Grill Kitchen where we watched the sizzle of the grill and the flashing flames of the woks as chefs prepare our meal in the theatre style kitchen! The grill side seats were an absolute highlight (Other than the food and cocktails of course). It was incredible being immersed in the energy of the kitchen in full-swing as the chefs cooked and plated so many amazing meals professionally, calmly and seamlessly. The chefs will entertain you with their knowledge of the food they are cooking up and will interact with you with general chit chat, jokes and of course a chef-selfie! They love hearing your feedback too so they can ensure you have an unforgettable culinary experience at The Ternary!

Now, on to the cocktails and food! It was date night so how could we say ‘no’ to cocktails! The great thing about the cocktail list at The Ternary is that each of the mixologists has created a creative and innovative signature cocktail so you are always bound to try something completely unique. It was a cold night so we opted for some winter warmers which were deep in flavour and strong in alcohol. We tried The Solution: bacardi oakheart, fireball, mead, lemon juice, maple syrup and apple cider; the perfect drink to sip in front of an open fire. We also tried the Smoke On The Watermelon: mezcal, cointreau noir, agave syrup, lime juice, watermelon and whites served with a smoking sprig of rosemary. The flavours in this cocktail were so interesting a new, the taste went from smoky and rich to light and fruity. yum!

Me being a seafood eater and my partner being a meat eater we were very delighted when we opened the menu as there multiple dishes to suit each of our dietary requirements and tastebuds. For me, hightlights included the grilled juicy king prawns with miso butter and black garlic and the tender scallops with Thai papaya salad served with banana blossom. For my meat-eating partner, his favourites were the pulled peppered beef wrapped in crispy pastry with water chestnut and as a somewhat curry connoisseur he also loved the chicken tikka masala with a rich tomato gravy, mace and fennel. Other highlights on the menu included the not-for-the-faint-hearted 1kg tomahawk and also the garlic parsley and lemon butter, potatoes and spinach.

Dessert was close to being the star of the meal (yes, I am a total sweet tooth)! The show stopping dessert called the Apple Martini featured warm apple compote with delicious and smooth cinnamon ice-cream and biscuit crunch crumble.  Not only was the dessert presented like a masterpiece, it tasted like one too. It was the perfect end to the meal and definitely one you want to save room for.

A somewhat hidden gem, The Ternary is the perfect location for a dinner date, drinks with work colleagues or a long lunch with friends. Go for a cocktail and stay for a wonderful meal. And be sure to get your chef-selfie!
