Oceans 8 was definitely an entertaining evening from start to finish.
With the promise of an all female cast made up of a-listers and pop royalty in the form of Rihanna our expectations were high.
Being snapped by the ‘faux’ paparazzi and sipping on champagne really set the scene before we moved to the comfort of the huuuge leather seats to watch the movie.
High fashion and diamonds may make Oceans 8 sound like an obvious chick flick and while it certainly has the key ingredients for a girls night out, it also has an interesting plot and plenty of humour to keep everyone genuinely entertained…. it left us guessing right until the end.
One to watch! You also don’t necessarily have had to have seen all or any of the other sequels to enjoy this one.
SYNOPSIS:
Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter team up in the action adventure “Ocean’s 8.”
Five years, eight months, 12 days…and counting. That’s how long Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) has been devising the biggest heist of her life.
She knows what it’s going to take—a team of the best in their field, starting with her partner-in-crime Lou Miller (Cate Blanchett). Together, they recruit a crew of specialists: jeweler Amita (Kaling); street con Constance (Awkwafina); expert fence Tammy (Paulson); hacker Nine Ball (Rihanna); and fashion designer Rose (Bonham Carter).
The target is a cool $150 million dollars in diamonds—diamonds that will be around the neck of world-famous actress Daphne Kluger (Hathaway), who will be centerstage at the event of the year, the Met Gala.
The plan is rock solid, but everything will need to be flawless if the team is going to get in and get away with the ice. All in plain sight.
“Ocean’s 8” also stars James Corden as an insurance investigator trying to put the pieces together, and Richard Armitage as Kluger’s unwitting date at the Gala.
Gary Ross directed “Ocean’s 8” from a screenplay he cowrote with Olivia Milch, story by Ross. Steven Soderbergh and Susan Ekins produced the film. Michael Tadross, Diana Alvarez, Jesse Ehrman and Bruce Berman served as executive producers, with Milch co-producing.
Ross’s behind-the-scenes team included director of photography Eigil Bryld, production designer Alex DiGerlando, Oscar-nominated editor Juliette Welfling, Oscar-winning editor William Goldenberg (“Argo”), costume designer Sarah Edwards, and composer Daniel Pemberton. Based on characters created by George Clayton Johnson & Jack Golden Russell.
