Let’s get Nudie at Night! To celebrate its major summer exhibition, Nude: art from the Tate collection, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is hosting a series of free evening events – Nude at Night – on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights throughout January 2017 during which time the Gallery will stay open until 10pm.

Alongside the Nude: art from the Tate collection exhibition, which is also open until 10pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings in January, Nude at Night presents a diverse program of free talks, live music, nude-themed film screenings, guided tours and nearly-nude drawing workshops, as well as a very welcome pop-up bar in the Gallery forecourt.

On Wednesday nights a special January edition of Art After Hours features ‘Nude fictions’ a series of free talks by celebrated Australian writers including Christos Tsiolkas, Linda Jaivin, Benjamin Law, Anita Heiss and Michael Leunig. Each week an author takes to the stage to read a new work; composing fictional backstories to the artworks showcased in Nude: art from the Tate collection.

On Thursday nights visitors to the Gallery can join philosophers and thinkers from The School of Life for ‘Naked Ideas’, a discussion of the big questions associated with the nude and nudity. Grab a drink from the Gallery’s pop-up bar and settle in to consider the ideas and theories that shape our interpretation of nudity and nakedness, from the vulnerable to the vulgar.

On Fridays, the Gallery forecourt hosts ‘Nearly Nude’ mass drawing workshops in the pop-up bar. Thursday and Friday evenings at the Gallery also feature guest artists and thinkers leading thought-provoking guided tours of the exhibition, with themes from body politics, sexiness, feminism and humour explored each week.
