The weather’s looking a little chilly this week, meaning your best bet is to let the smoking hot action from the 2017 Australian Open of Surfing in Manly warm you up! The nine-day, one-of-a-kind festival will will run from 25 February – 5 March, bringing together some of the world’s top athletes in surfing, skateboarding and BMX, combined with live concerts on the music stage, art/photo installations and interactive sponsor displays – all taking place on iconic Manly Beach, Sydney
From health and fitness popups, gourmet food trucks and limited edition Doughnut Time selections to mechanical surfboards, live sand sculptures and surf lessons with some of the biggest names in sport – the 2017 Australian Open of Surfing (AOS) is set transform Manly Beach into a sizzling food and lifestyle precinct.
A tonne of Sydney favourites are providing delicious eats to get you through the days of exciting action, including Cantina Movil dishing up yummy burritos, an epic surf-themed creation from Doughnut Time, Japanese street food with a twist from Daniel San, and good ol’ American BBQ from 2 Smoking Barrels among many others!
The brains behind the Watsons Bay Hotel have also exported their beach-luxe vibe north of the Bridge to create the Beach Club pop-up bar, whose cocktails and craft beers are sure to be a hit with the huge crowds, and will feature a seaside-chic fitout clad with comfy lounge furniture and blue and white umbrellas, as well as mouthwatering eats and treats including fresh coconut cocktails, fish and chips, fish tacos, Hawaiian chicken skewers and a specialty Hawaiian Poke.
Beach Club at Manly will also host free weekend morning yoga sessions on the beach, $1 oyster and surf film nights, acoustic performances, live art battles and a pumping program of DJs, hip-hop and reggae sets with Aussie acts including Chali 2na & Krafty Kuts, Freida’s Boss, Kid Kenobi, Squeef, Rich Penny, Amastro, Adam Harpaz, Tim Boffa, Brenny B-Sides, Thomas Lidde and Alex Mac.
Drawing over 300 of the world class in surfing, skateboarding and BMX, along with live music, the 2017 AOS will provide the perfect platform to highlight Australian beach culture.
