Art Month is finally here again! As an official partner of Art Month Sydney, The Galeries on George Street will once again transform into The Artists’ Playground, bringing to life a unique gallery experience until 20th March. The walls, floor, columns, voids and laneways of the centre will all be utilised as canvases by emerging artists with suspended art throughout the centre incorporated with the latest technology.
Customers will be encouraged to download the Eyejack application from their smart phones and simply navigate to The Galeries Exhibition. As customers point their cameras towards the art, each artwork will come to life with movement, sound and vibrant colour. The Galeries have also turned this augmented reality experience into an ‘art hunt’. Once all 12 pieces have been viewed and collected on the application, customers will win a prize from one of The Galeries retailers including Books Kinokuniya, Alpha60, Fit Nutrition Fix, Doughnut Time and much more. There is also one major prize of $500 to be won each week through the ‘art hunt’. Customers who share their augmented reality experience on Instagram tagging @thegaleries and hashtagging #thegaleries, will go in the running to win an amazing Samsung Gear VR Headset.
Performance Body Art also blends its way into The Artists’ Playground. A model will be painted into Ox King’s mural located on Level 1 near Fitness First from 11 am on the 16th of March. We encourage you to come to watch these spectacular displays of camouflage art.
The Galeries is also offering customers the chance to take a piece of The Artists’ Playground home with them. Customers who spend over $200 at any retail store or restaurant within The Galeries can collect a complimentary limited edition SoL Cup from the SoL Cup pop-up which will be located on Ground floor until 20th March within trade hours where there will be two special designs to choose from. SoL Cups are the next biggest craze in coffee, trendy hand blown coffee cups, completely chemical free and in this instance, designed by Furry Little Peach.
During Art Month, the 2017 finalists for The Galeries annual Emerging Artist Exhibition will be announced. The shortlisted finalists will be invited to exhibit in The Galeries public art space, for the month of June where a winner will be selected to receive $4,000 in prize money and a personal mentorship with Art Month Creative Director, Barry Keldoulis. The public will also have the opportunity to vote for their favourite artist, with a People’s Choice prize of $1,000 awarded to the winner.
