Sydney winter usually splits us into two camps: people hibernating under blankets pretending social plans don’t exist… and people aggressively chasing any venue with heating, cocktails and carbs.
Personally? I fall somewhere in the middle.
Which is why North Bondi Fish’s new Disco Yum Cha series feels dangerously appealing.
Launching every Saturday and Sunday from 6 June through to 1 August, the beachside restaurant is transforming weekends into a sunshine-soaked disco lunch moment complete with seafood-driven yum cha, DJs, ocean views and Aperol Spritz specials that honestly feel very “European summer denial in Bondi” — and I mean that as a compliment.
The concept blends Asian-inspired share plates with the relaxed coastal energy North Bondi Fish does so well, while leaning into a slightly nostalgic 70s disco vibe that feels playful rather than gimmicky.
Think:
- disco DJs spinning while the ocean sits directly outside
- long lunches that accidentally become sunset drinks
- Aperols flowing from midday
- seafood-heavy share menus
- groups of friends slowly getting louder by 3pm
Honestly, it sounds like the kind of Sydney afternoon that starts with “just one drink” and ends six hours later.
The menus themselves are actually really solid too.
The series focuses on Asian-inspired seafood dishes designed for sharing, including:
- Soy Cured Ocean Trout with Kumquats and Ginger Dressing
- Fish & Prawn Siu Mai
- Prawn Toast with Sweet Chilli
- Tuna Sang Choi Bao with Iceberg and XO
Guests can choose between a $65pp or $89pp set menu, with optional add-ons depending on how committed you are to the long lunch agenda.
And then there’s the drinks situation.
North Bondi Fish is offering $15 Aperol Spritz specials all day every Saturday and Sunday, alongside optional bottomless packages featuring wine, prosecco, beer and cocktails.
The cocktail package includes:
- Aperol Spritz
- Campari Spritz
- Aperol Paloma
- non-alcoholic Crodino Spritz
Which honestly feels very tailored to Sydney millennials who still want a fun afternoon but also need to function the next day.
What I actually love most about this concept is that it doesn’t feel overly formal or intimidating.
It feels social.
The kind of place you book when you want to gather people together during winter without committing to a huge night out. There’s something about Bondi in winter that locals quietly know is sometimes better than summer anyway. Less chaos. Better tables. Slower energy. Ocean still sparkling.
And adding disco, dumplings and seafood into that equation feels like a very strong decision.
