If your idea of a good time involves a perfectly mixed martini, a few spine-tingling stories, and a touch of old-world intrigue — this one’s for you.
On Monday, 24th November, the Paddo Inn is dimming the lights and turning up the drama for Cocktails & Crime Stories — an intimate, one-night-only evening of murder, mystery and martinis hosted by acclaimed crime historian Max Burns-McRuvie.
Set under candlelight, guests will be transported back to 19th-century Sydney, when the city’s underbelly was crawling with colourful (and often deadly) characters. Between sips of themed cocktails like the Bloody Berry Spritz, Eye-chee Martini and The Missing Cherry, Max will guide guests through the dark tales of the Pyrmont Bridge Stalker, the homicidal housewife of Botany Bay, and the bigamist butcher of Sussex Street — all bound by a chilling fate at Darlinghurst’s hangman’s noose.
This immersive night continues The Paddo Inn’s stellar run of sell-out experiences — following Wine & Crime and Tarot & Tannins — blending storytelling, history and seriously good drinks.
And because no true crime tale should be told on an empty stomach, Il Baretto will be serving up a lineup of rustic Italian bites: think Homemade Focaccia al Rosmarino, Fennel Salami with seasonal fruit compote, and Rigatoni alla Norma.
Expect an atmosphere that’s moody, intimate, and completely transportive — the perfect midweek experience for history buffs, true crime fans, and anyone after something a little different from their usual night out.
