I’m calling it now – Electric Gardens is going to be the BEST dance music festival Sydney has ever seen. Just added to the already outstanding line-up (Fatboy Slim, Dubfire, John Digweed, Norman Jay, James Zabiela, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren etc) is superstar Erick Morillo, now confirmed to appear at the inaugural Electric Gardens Festival in Sydney on January 23, 2016.

This may be Electric Gardens first outing but the people behind it are highly experienced in creating outdoor dance parties, having been responsible for the epic annual SW4 Festival on London’s Clapham Common.  And note the use of the word ‘dance’ here; this is not some teenies’ EDM ‘roid-fest, this a celebration of good old proper House music played by world-famous international DJs who are absolute masters of their craft and at getting a crowd going. And Erick Morillo is certainly one of those.

He’s a platinum-selling artist, he’s topped the charts worldwide as the producer behind Reel 2 Real’s hit “I Like To Move It” (but I forgive him) and he’s been responsible for a bewildering array of dance-floor tracks including ‘Reach’, ‘Believe’, ‘Do What You Want’ and ‘I Feel Love’ – under pseudonyms including Ministers De La Funk, The Dronez (with Harry ‘Choo Choo’ Romero and Jose Nunez) and Li’l Mo Ying Yang. He’s remixed everyone from Whitney Houston to Basement Jaxx and continues to run the legendary Subliminal Records house music empire.

In fact, there really is very little in the world of music and entertainment that Erick hasn’t turned his hand to. For over a decade now, Erick has remained one of the most in-demand and instantly recognizable DJs in the world. From the instant success of his weekly ‘Sessions’ parties in New York, to hosting events like the annual road-blocking Subliminal Sessions parties in Miami at Winter Music Conference, to his coveted residency at Ministry of Sound (he’s still one of the only American DJs to ever hold one) and of course his now legendary Subliminal Sessions parties at Pacha Ibiza, Morillo just doesn’t stop. His nonstop DJing schedule at one point saw him straddling the globe playing up to a whopping 30 gigs a month!

2015 promises to be a big year for Erick, with Subliminal re-launching in the digital sphere with a whole raft of new ideas and remixes planned.

“At the moment, we’re gearing up for a re-launch of the label and it will have a real underground sound so I’m really looking forward to that. Plus we’ll be doing remixes of the old catalogue and then I’ll be working on a new solo album project.”

Electric Gardens promises to bring back all that is good about dance music to the festival scene in Sydney – the friendliness, fun and focus on the music. This is not a party to bring an attitude to or pose about at, this is one where everyone will be dancing their socks off all day long, I guarantee it.

As you’ve probably worked out, I am more than a little excited about this event and suggest you get a move on and grab your second release tickets before they go. And stay tuned to our site as we’re hoping to bring a very special Electric Gardens extra for Sydney Social 101 members!
