Hands in the air like you just don’t care cos Return to Rio is back! Our favourite dance music weekender starts off all the summery festival fun next Friday 8th November and has enough excitement planned to carry you all the way through without a moment to pause.
The annual gathering of magic, mischief and mayhem will host the cream of the electronic crop with Puerto Rican house lords and DC10 favourites, The Martinez Brothers at the top of the bill. One of my highlight performers from earlier in the year, Argentina’s El Maestro, Hernán Cattáneo, will be reunited with dead-set legend, Nick Warren for a very special performance. Widely touted as the hottest back-to-back duo on the planet right now, the pair will be making a triumphant return to Australia in honour of this year’s event. I can’t wait!
Adding to the already dreamy atmosphere of the riverside, foliage-draped dance floor will be Acid Pauli, the musical wizard who transverses the whimsical, fantastical and melodic tempos of house and techno. Notorious for performances in magical places like Tulum’s jungles and Black Rock City, Acid Pauli’s well known on The Playa and his sets are a highlight of Burning Man.
I confess, I’m probably most looking forward to having a proper old school rave up at the appearance of favourites DJ Luck & MC Neat who will be taking over the ‘Masterblaster’ for a house and garage re-wind which with ‘A Little Bit of Luck’ will be like no other. Literally, ‘There Ain’t No Stopping Us.’
Another highlight Riopians make the pilgrimage for every year is the infamous Rio pool party! This year with the added bonus of prominent party-starter, Nightmares on Wax bringing his sun-drenched dubbed out soul sounds to the banks of the Hawkesbury. The weather looks to be warm and sunny so dig out your crazy cozzies and prepare to get wet in the water park!
But it’s not just the music that creates that special Rio vibe. The location and the people are second to none in making this Sydney’s best outdoor festival weekend.
