The Boilierhouse Restaurant is a hidden gem, nestled away beneath Manly’s historical Quarantine Station. This is a surprising yet delightful location, boasting views of Sydney Harbour and original architecture from the 1800’s.

Originally used in the 1830’s to isolate people suspected to be carrying contagious diseases such as Spanish Influenza, the Quarantine station is renowned for being home to the ghosts of the past that still “haunt” the area. It is incredibly refurbished, but still maintains the structure of its old mysterious buildings, which can be explored on a Q station “ghost tour”.

The Boilerhouse restaurant has just launched its new seasonal menu and Sydney Social 101 was lucky enough to experience its Autumn Harvest Degustation dinner.

The mouthwatering, six-course degustation menu was specially designed by inaugural chef Matt Kemp and showcased spectacular autumn produce.

Guests were seated on a raised platform around the edges of the room, giving us a birds eye view of a large table decorated with fresh autumn fruit and vegetables, where Matt Kemp explained each dish in detail.

Highlights on the menu, paired with perfect wines included:

 Teacup

Smoked celeriac veloute with truffle cream

A small taster that warmed us from the inside and got us wanting more!

Aritchoke

Gnocchi of roasted Jerusalem artichoke with wild rabbit and Rosemary

The richness of the well-seasoned rabbit was complimented by in-season broad beans and a crispy skinned artichoke.

baramundi

Barramundi with wild mushrooms and cauliflower cream

The texture of shitake mushrooms contrasted deliciously with a crispy sprig of rosemary that guests could eat like a chip!

Mandagery Creek venison with spiced pear tarte fine

An unusual meat to find on a menu in Manly, the venison was perfectly pink and paired with caramelized turnip

Upcoming events at The Boilerhouse include:
