Off the back of Fonda’s highly successful Sydney debut in Bondi Beach in 2017, the fun-loving Mexican eatery has officially opened the doors to its newest casa in Surry Hills.

Located on Crown Street, the beating heart of Sydney’s dining scene, the restaurant has been inspired by the fondas of Mexico, much like its sister venues, to evoke a sense of familiarity and to make everyone feel welcome; and their Surry Hills casa is no exception.

Best known for their fresh approach to Mexican cuisine, you can expect all your Fonda favourites including their legendary tacos, chargrilled quesadillas, burritos rolled with their signature flour tortillas, and nachos with house made guacamole and pico de gallo, with the menu available for both eat-in and takeaway.

You’ll also enjoy a killer cocktail list featuring their much-loved Margarita selection ranging from house, traditional and frozen – the perfect little tickler to get your Mexican fiesta started. The drink also includes a selection of cerveza (beer), cider, and a varied wine list featuring local and international producers.

Over the weekend Sydney Social 101 popped in to Fonda Surry Hills for an early dinner and a few sneaky margs! The bright and open casual dining space is both stunning and welcoming. The staff are so friendly, attentive and helpful making the dining experience fun and relaxing.

To start we shared the Tortilla Crisps topped  with house-made pico de gallo & guacamole and sipped on Classic Margaritas – the perfect combo! For mains we both enjoyed filling and flavour-filled burritos! I had the Market Fresh Fish burrito with cabbage, pickled carrot & onion, black beans, quinoa & brown rice, chipotle aioli, Jane Fonda salsa, crushed tortilla crisps & lime. My hot date devoured the Slow-cooked Beef Brisket burrito with shredded cabbage, baby spinach, caramelised onion, quinoa & brown rice, black beans, crushed tortilla crisps, chipotle aioli & green salsa. To wash down our burritos we sipped on some of the best Mezcal Sours I have ever had.
