Surry Hills has welcomed the new chick on the block, Henrietta, a 65-seat casual eatery, bar and take-away venue serving traditional Middle Eastern style charcoal chicken, with all the trimmings. Located on Crown St, in the space formerly occupied by Pizza E Birra, Henrietta sits alongside Middle Eastern restaurant and big sister Nour.
Chicken is the hero at Henrietta with other dishes on the menu drawing on Middle Eastern influences, through flavours, textures and dishes to accompany the free range charcoal chook. Feast as you like and order a whole ($28) or half ($15) charcoal chicken, with a selection of traditional side dishes such as house-made hummus ($10), tabbouleh ($10) and fattoush salads ($10).
The menu includes fun and not-so-traditional dishes such as chicken tawook spring rolls ($6); lamb kibbeh san choy bow ($16), beef brisket shawarma tacos ($26); and burnt baba ganoush with miso, pomegranate and herbs ($10).
Henrietta desserts hero Middle Eastern classics with a twist, including a baklava sundae and chocolate mousse with honeycomb and rose pistachios.
The space has been designed by Sydney creative agency DS17, who have created interiors to reflect the brand’s fun and playful identity, including a neon ‘Henrietta’ sign in line sight on entry to the venue. The space showcases clean lines and modern fittings, using a combination of concrete and terrazzo across the bar and dining room. Outdoor seating on bustling Crown Street offers diners a seat in the sun, should they want to perch for the afternoon and enjoy a beverage or two.
The full service bar showcases Middle Eastern inspired cocktails and an approachable wine list to complement the menu. Cocktails include a spicy passionfruit margarita, a house negroni and a hibiscus sour – gin, campari, hibiscus, cranberry and pomegranate.
There is a separate take-away window for those who need to grab and go, or can’t nab a seat in the dining room. The shop front offers a condensed menu, including drinks.
Henrietta is open 11:30am – until late Monday – Sunday for walk-ins only.
