There is no denying that March into Merivale, connected by ANZ, which returns for its seventh sensational year, is one of Sydney Social 101’s favorite foodie events of the year. In fact, March into Merivale was one of the first posts we ever did back in 2012!

Now encompassing an exciting range of food, drink, entertainment and lifestyle experiences, this year’s March into Merivale will run from Monday 23 February to Sunday 29 March and will set the rules on living larger in every way, every day. Guests can choose from over 50 events and plan five delicious weeks of non-stop culinary adventures, no matter their taste, budget or appetite. To celebrate the foodie extravaganza and celebration of Merivale and all that it has become, Sydney Social 101 sat down and chatted to David Lovett, head chef at Merivale’s Uccello. We chat about his passion for Italy, where he likes to dine when he’s not working and so much more. The tantalising March into Merivale 2015 programme includes:

 

LAUNCH PARTY: Feast the eyes and indulge the tastebuds at the March into Merivale Launch Party on Wednesday 25 February. Showcasing the best food and drinks from over twenty Merivale venues, this supercharged event will take over ivy to bring Merivale’s best venues to the heart of the city.  From the ballroom to ivy Pool Club, Ash Street to Palings, food lovers can meet their favourite chefs, bartenders and sommeliers as they are served signature dishes, cocktails and wines. The event ticket, priced at $45, comes with eight tokens to redeem at the various stalls, with top-ups available on the night.

 

COOGEE FORESHORE FESTIVAL, presented by ANZ. At this local seaside celebration on Sunday 15 March, Coogee Pavilion’s ground floor will be transformed into a bustling marketplace filled with food and drink stalls. The beloved games area will be home to face painting and mystical magicians keeping kids of all ages entertained. Merivale pop-ups from venues such as Papi Chulo, Mr Wong, El Loco and sushi e will spill out onto the promenade, along with roaming entertainment, a Deus surfboard shaping stand and plenty more surprises. Tickets cost $45.

 

MONDAY DETOX: Every Monday night at ivy Pool Club, yoga mats will replace lounges as Lululemon hosts free yoga sessions to reset the mind and re-energise the body. Detoxers can then cleanse the sins of the weekend by indulging at their favourite Merivale restaurant without the guilt – Papi Chulo, The Fish Shop, Coogee Pavilion, The Beresford Hotel and Uccello will all offer their own distinctive spin on a healthy dish and mocktail, from $25.

 

TUESDAY DATE NIGHT: Every Tuesday is date night. Lovebirds can wine, dine and dazzle with two courses, plus a bottle of Sanpellegrino and a choice of beverage from Villa Maria, Chandon or Heineken, from $45 per person.

 

WEDNESDAY SHOWCASE EVENTS: Bon vivants can relish in the culinary delights of the outstanding Merivale showcase events every Wednesday, priced at $45 per ticket.

 

  • Just Desserts, Wednesday 4 March, Establishment: An evening of sweet indulgence with the best desserts from Mr Wong, est., Lorraine’s Patisserie, Ms.G’s and Merivale Events.

 

  • Around the World with Merivale Wines, Wednesday 11 March, ivy: A global tasting expedition with Merivale’s world class wines, hand-selected by renowned sommelier Franck Moreau and accompanied by the finest cheeses.

 

  • European Laneway, Wednesday 18 March, ivy: The magic of Europe transforms ivy’s laneway with the finest French, Spanish, Greek and Italian influenced dishes from Bistrode CBD, Felix, Ash St. Cellar, Uccello, Lorraine’s Patisserie and Palings.

 

  • Wok On!, Wednesday 25 March, Establishment: An urban party bursting with the sights, smells and tastes of Asia. Featuring hip hop beats, neon installations and stalls from Ms.G’s, Mr Wong, Mr Wong Dim Sum, Sunee’s and sushi e.

 

SAVOIR-FAIR THURSDAY: Merivale kitchen masters including Dan Hong, Peter Doyle, Jordan Toft, Danielle Alvarez and Jeremy Strode will each take a turn to host their ultimate dinner party at ivy Private Dining Room. Budding chefs can brush up on their kitchen knowledge and learn to cook like an off-duty chef as they get a peek at their culinary habits. Everyone, including the chef, will then grab a seat around the dinner table for an intimate supper and all-inclusive drinks (from $150 per person, limited 22 seats available each event). Those with a keen sweet tooth can learn new techniques with Merivale’s queen of pastry, Lorraine Godsmark. Her weekly two hour masterclasses will offer insight into her skill, approach and philosophy, at $80 per person.

 

FRIDAY SURPRISE: From freak shows to opera performances and impromptu cabaret, Merivale will kick start the weekend with the zaniest after-work sessions imaginable, guaranteed to shock and surprise. Each week, a different venue will be chosen for the Friday surprise – Establishment, ivy Pool Club, Slip Inn, Palings or Beresford.

 

SATURDAY PARTY: Each Saturday will explode into the next with a showcase of Merivale’s best parties in town, from Pacha Sydney’s new Maison de Fous to Beresford’s sizzling Mardi Gras Party.

 

SUNDAY BRUNCH: March into Merivale will feature not-to-be-missed brunch experiences at flagship venues including: Breakfast à la Française (Felix, 1 March), Mardi Gras Recovery Brunch (Beresford, 8 March), BBQ Brunch (Papi Chulo, 22 Mar) and  Brunch Italiana (Uccello, 29 March). $55 per person including a set brunch feast and a glass of Chandon Rosé.

 

MYSTERY DINNER: Throughout the festival, adventurous diners can add a little excitement to their night by booking a Mystery Dinner. From the grand dining room at est. or the edgy Potts Pott hangout Ms.G’s, guests could end up in any one of Merivale’s award-winning restaurants. $75 per person including three or more courses, a bottle of wine and a bottle of Sanpellegrino.

Event extraordinaire Alex ZabottoBentley and his team have created myriad unique installations and activations throughout the programme. The spirit of the festival won’t just be limited to the events – it will also be filled with pop-up surprises and interactive experiences sprinkled throughout the many venues every single day.
