When you find yourself in Adelaide, you best be finding Sean’s Kitchen: Yet another fantastic eatery by Chef Sean Connolly who makes the most of Adelaide’s award winning fresh produce.

The staff, venue and fare ticks all the boxes for date nights, but if you really want to flex your tasting muscles, you need to go in a group. The servings are generous, and some of the top dishes are designed to be shared.

We started with the octopus salad, incredibly tender octopus with insane smooth feta and rocket – you need to build every ingredient on your fork, as they don’t really stand alone, but once you do the flavours balance perfectly, and your tastebuds sing.

Next was my favourite dish of the night: Orgy of mushrooms. This is, as the name implies, a bevy of mushrooms sitting atop the lightest gnocchi ever that is made with ricotta and all this is covered in butter sauce. I cant even talk about it as I start getting the vapours. (When will I wrap my lips around you again, Orgy???)

The popular choice is the lamb shoulder in liquorice sauce – the “liquorice” is star anise and the sauce is sensational. I only tasted the sauce, which I added to my scotch fillet melt-in-my-mouth steak – I couldn’t get the lamb shoulder itself as I only had my Dad with me, and we were already stretching our bellies with the sides alone: Duck fat chips (enough said) – Grandmas carrots (secret recipe, but basically cooked till soft in sugar or honey and completely decadent).

My Dad has never had the pleasure of coming to a review dinner with me, and he watched in shock and awe as I sank two and a half deserts after our epic meal. All in the name of research Dad!

We tried the donut ice-cream sandwich that has a lemon curd sauce and meringue hat. Top points. This was followed with a palate cleanser of Milo ice-cream – this usually goes with the brownie which I skipped for the sake of my thighs but I had to try my name-sake five star ice-cream.

Then we (lol me – my Dad was practically having a coronary) had the New York baked cheese cake with caramel sauce and my soul left my body and flew to heaven momentarily and danced with Elvis before descending to earth and falling into an espresso martini.
