1821 is the hot, new, must-try restaurant on Pitt Street in Sydney’s CBD offering the very best of authentic Greek flavours, food and wine. So naturally, we just had to try it!


To celebrate the cooler months 1821 has created a new winter menu curated by Executive Chef David Tsirekas. “I have designed this menu with inspiration from my experiences and philosophy taught through the Greek ages. The Odyssey may have begun in Greece, but it has found it’s home here in 1821” says Tsirekas.

1821’s Winter offering consists of everything ranging from Sagnaki, Wild Green & Leek Pie, Stuffed Calamari, Vegetarian Pastitsio, Chicken Manestra to the stand out and simply divine, Braised Beed Short Ribs.

On our recent visit to 1821 we tried (after much hard decision making) the Melitzana spiced eggplant dip served with warm, crusty bread and the Village Salad (Tomato, cucumber, Spanish onion, red capsicum, radish, feta, olives, oregano, extra virgin olive oil) to start. The dip was flavoursome and rich and went perfectly on the crunchy bread while the salad was fresh and most importantly, had lots of olives and feta. With our appetites sufficiently whet, it was time to more on to the main courses.

We then moved on to try the Wild Green & Leek Pie, Ouzo cured salmon and the Sagnaki. The pie was full of lots of delicious, healthy greens and wrapped in golden, flaky pastry and was the perfect winter warmer while the salmon served with toasted almonds, mulberry & pomegranate dressing was juicy and just melted in our mouths. The Sagnaki was our absolute favourite dish. Graviera cheese, wild mushrooms, truffle paste & thyme honey served with giant shavings of truffle- I think this is what heaven on earth is!


Make sure you leave room for dessert because you definitely want to make sure you can fit it in. The dessert menu features treats including Apple Pie Bougasta, Patsavoura, Rice Pudding and crowd favourite Caramel Baklava Ice Cream if you dare to have something a little cooler.

With only minimal room left we went with the divine Caramel Baklava Ice Cream. Layered with vanilla bean ice cream, caramel fudge and baklava nuts, the Caramel Baklava Ice Cream was the perfect end to the meal, it was light, flavoursome and not too sweet. I wish I had room for the Apple Pie Bougasta too. I hear it is delish and we will def be back to try it!


Not only are all the dishes delicious, full of flavour and generous in portion size, they are also extremely well presented and totes perfect for an insta snap!


The wine and cocktail menu perfectly complements the food menu.  1821 offers a range of both Greek and international wines for every taste and budget as well as cocktails inspired by Greek flavours such as the ANDROMEDA ELIXIR: Beluga vodka, Pama pomegranate, lemon, sugar, egg white. There are also super tasty mocktails if you are having a sober night and a range of ports to finish your meal with.


In addition to having fantastic food, 1821 also has fantastic staff and service. The staff were very attentive, their recommendations were on point, the food and drinks came out quickly and when my boyfriend had to leave early for a work emergency and left me on a date by myself, the staff were quick to step in and make me feel comfortable and have a chat to me.
