Lotus Dining Group has just opened a brand-new venue to Sydney’s thriving inner-west-  Lotus Dumpling Bar Summer Hill!


Located in the heart of Summer Hill, the restaurant is an extension of Lotus Dining Group’s popular Walsh Bay restaurant, bringing the cuisine of its sister venue to local diners in the inner-west. The new space offers a casual, yet sophisticated environment, featuring exposed brick walls, intimate banquettes and sleek timber tables.


The vibrant new Cantonese style menu will hero an extensive range of Lotus’ signature dumplings and flavour-packed style share plates, as well as a varied drinks menu that focuses on local Australian wine and craft beers. The food selection includes a range of new dishes and a distinct vegetarian and vegan offering that has been created especially for the Summer Hill outpost.


 Sydney Social 101 recently popped in to try out Lotus’ new Inner West location. To start we enjoyed two of their ultra-delicious signature cocktails. Dragon’s Passion 2.0, a tasty mix of grey goose watermelon, st germaine, passionfruit, hibiscus & lime and the Summer Hill Sour a smooth concoction of bombay sapphire, lemon myrtle, lemon, grenache & riesling foam.


After spending a long time perusing the food menu (Everything looked soooo good we couldn’t choose what we wanted) we opted for the Banquet menu – a brilliant choice!


To start we enjoyed the fresh and zesty mix mushroom & endive salad with citrus dressing- this really whet out appetite. Next we enjoyed the pork xiao long bao which are filled with a delicious soupy filling and the moreish crispy prawn dumplings. For mains we devoured the  melt-in-your-mouth steamed barramundi fillet with chinese cabbage,
ginger and shallots and the flavour-filled kung pao chicken with peanuts and dried chilli. For sides we enjoyed the
steamed broccolini with sugar snap pea and kale and  steamed rice.


As I have a sweet tooth and refuse to miss dessert we also order the Mango sorbet which was possibly the best Mango sorbet I have ever had! We were served a large scoop (much to my delight) on a bed of cookie crumbs. Yum!


Other menu highlights include vegan five spice tofu and black fungus mushroom dumplings and spicy Dan Dan noodles with dry chilli oil and crushed peanuts. The signature XO scallops with Chinese dipping donuts are a chef’s favourite, with its light and crispy fried bread acting as the perfect tool to mop up the decadent XO sauce.
