Sydney loves a free feed. But what does Sydney love almost as much as a free feed? An excuse to ride a bike down a hill towards the beach while thinking about tacos the entire way. So when we heard Lime was rolling into Manly and celebrating by giving away free tacos at Chica Bonita, we didn’t need to be told twice.
Mark it in the calendar: on Tuesday, 28th July, Taco Tuesday is about to get considerably better, as Lime teams up with Manly institution Chica Bonita to hand out free tacos to celebrate its move into Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
For the uninitiated, Chica Bonita is the tiny, tucked-away taco joint just off The Corso that’s been quietly running one of Manly’s best Mexican operations for over a decade – the kind of spot with multi-coloured tiles, Dia de los Muertos dolls and a roller door that opens onto a laneway deck, where the tacos are small but the flavour is not. It’s earned a cult following of locals who treat “quick beach lunch” as a genuine lifestyle, and this Tuesday, that lunch is on the house.
The details, because you’ll want to plan your route: From 1pm until 3pm (or until stock runs out, so don’t dawdle), Lime will be giving away free tacos, capped at two per person, with a lineup including their famously good fish taco and the fan-favourite KFC cauliflower – because apparently fried chicken flavour cauliflower has fully infiltrated Sydney’s collective taco consciousness, and honestly, we’re not mad about it. Every taco comes with a generous wedge of lime, which, considering who’s throwing the party, feels less like garnish and more like a branding exercise we can fully get behind.
You can grab yours to go or pull up a seat at one of Chica Bonita’s tables and make an afternoon of it, while Lime staff will be on-site introducing locals to the share-bike scheme itself – because free tacos are clearly the fastest way to a Northern Beaches local’s heart, and also possibly their bike-sharing app download.
So, whether you’re already Lime-curious, already a Chica Bonita regular, or simply someone who has never once turned down a free taco (a very reasonable life philosophy), the plan for next Tuesday writes itself: ride, eat, repeat, ideally before the fish tacos run out.
