Anyone who travels regularly knows the drill at domestic terminals. You arrive early just in case, wander aimlessly, and usually settle for something fine but forgettable before boarding.
So when I say Icebergs Dining Room and Bar opening at Sydney Airport’s Qantas Domestic Terminal is a big deal, I don’t say it lightly.
Icebergs is one of those Sydney institutions most of us associate with Bondi. Long lunches, ocean views, impeccable service and that unmistakable sense of occasion. Seeing the brand translate that feeling into an airport setting felt ambitious. Experiencing it has been genuinely impressive.
Familiar, but perfectly reworked for travel
This isn’t a novelty outpost or a watered-down version of the original. Icebergs at T3 feels thoughtful, intentional and very on-brand.
CEO Tasso Della Noce describes it as bringing the warmth and ease Icebergs has delivered for more than two decades into the domestic travel experience, and that really is the best way to describe it. From the greeting when you arrive to the pacing of the service, it feels calm, confident and considered. Exactly what you want before a flight.
Designed for travellers who don’t want to rush
The space itself is beautiful without trying too hard. Designed by long-time collaborators Lazzarini Pickering Architects, it takes cues from Bondi’s ocean and sky but adapts them for the pace of an airport.
There are curves instead of sharp edges, screens that soften the space, and light that encourages you to slow down rather than constantly check departure boards. Details like sculptural banquettes inspired by ocean waves and hand-glazed Tuscan tiles give the venue warmth and texture. A reminder that good design still matters, even in transit.
Choose your own pre-flight adventure
What really works here is the flexibility.
If you’re short on time, Icebergs Caffè To Go is ideal. Proper Vittoria coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice and exclusive Sonoma pastries, including coconut croissants, finger buns and focaccia filled with mortadella, rocket and fermented chilli. It’s fast, but it still feels like a treat.
If you’ve built in time or intentionally arrived early, Icebergs Bar and Kitchen lets you settle in properly. You can order at the bar or via QR, enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine, and ease into your journey. The menu draws from Icebergs’ Bondi roots and yes, the Iceburger is here, which feels oddly comforting before a flight.
And for those who want to start their trip properly, there’s a full coursed dining experience. Sitting down to a proper meal at the airport still feels novel, but this is where Icebergs really shines. It’s calm, polished and surprisingly grounding.
