It’s a Sheaf Summer: Why This Double Bay Icon Still Defines Sydney Summers

There are certain places in Sydney that don’t just exist — they become eras.

For me, in my 20s, The Golden Sheaf was less of a venue and more of a gravitational pull. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, without negotiation, I’d somehow end up there. It didn’t matter how the week had gone, how exhausted we all were, or whether we’d promised ourselves we were “just staying in tonight” (never once happened). By sundown, I was heading to Double Bay like clockwork.

Walking into The Sheaf back then was like stepping into a social bingo card.
You’d spot:
– The crush you’d been low-key thinking about for months.
– The friend you hadn’t seen since that night out that went mildly off the rails.
– The person you absolutely hoped not to see… who, naturally, appeared within ten minutes.

But that was the magic of it. The chaos. The anticipation. The delicious unpredictability of who might be on the Rooftop, who was holding court in the beer garden, and which song would have the entire venue vibrating with nostalgia.

The Sheaf wasn’t just a pub — it was the backdrop to becoming an adult, Sydney-style. It held the laughter, the questionable decisions, the sunburnt shoulders, the first kisses and the dramatic exits. It was messy and golden and unforgettable.

And the best part?
It still is.

Sheaf Summer is Back — and It’s Better Than Ever

Fast-forward to now, and The Golden Sheaf is embracing summer with the kind of energy that reminds you exactly why it became such an icon.

Every Friday to Sunday until 28 February 2026, they’re serving up long lunches, balmy afternoons and the kind of nights that stretch into stories.

Here’s what’s happening:

Fridays: Margaritas & Music

Kick off the weekend with $12 Margaritas from open till close. The resident DJ keeps things warm, summery and effortlessly fun — the exact vibe The Sheaf has always mastered.

Saturdays: Rooftop Takeover

At 5pm, the party rises to the Rooftop.
Think: golden hour, house music, that familiar sense that something brilliant is about to happen. Downstairs, DJs and live bands carry the night through. And from 8–10pm? $12 Espresso Martinis. Because of course.

Sundays: Laid-Back Lounge Mode

The Sheaf turns into Sydney’s favourite backyard — live acoustic sets, relaxed beer garden vibes, and kids eat free all day.

On Sunday 21 December, the festive fun ramps up with face painting, Christmas crafts and a special appearance from Santa.

Drinks Specials All Summer Long

If you needed another reason (you don’t), there’s more:

  • 2 glasses of Chandon for $22 until 31 December
  • $9 schooners of select beer every day until 31 January
  • Plus, catch every moment of The Ashes and the best summer sport live in the Sports Bar

It’s basically summer in liquid form.

The Sheaf Then. The Sheaf Now. The Sheaf Always.

There’s something grounding — almost comforting — about the way The Sheaf continues to evolve yet somehow stays exactly what we always needed it to be.

A meeting place.
A memory-maker.
A home base for Sydney summers, from first crushes to first kids.

In my 20s, it shaped entire chapters of my life.
Now, it’s shaping the next generation’s — with rooftop parties, family Sundays, and celebrations that feel distinctly, beautifully Sydney.

Sheaf Summer is here. And whether you’re easing into Friday or winding down from the weekend that was… it’s all happening in one golden, iconic place.
