Fans of new music gathered at  one of Sydney’s most iconic bars last Wednesday to see high energy, Americana rock sensation Key To The Highway triumph in the Discovered at Marble Bar live Grand Finale.

Sydney Social 101 joined nearly 200 music lovers who packed the opulent Marble Bar to witness the excitement (and partake of the yummy cocktails) as five acts battled it out live to take home the coveted 10K residency prize. Judging the musicians, along with the  public, was an acclaimed panel of expert judges – singer songwriter Mahalia Barnes, Rolling Stone Australia publisher, Mathew Coyte, and industry heavyweight and MD of Inertia Tim Kelly. Tying the night together and making sure everything ran smoothly was the incomparable Danny Clayton on MC duties who built the crowd into a frenzy of anticipation.

Barnes There was an eclectic range of music on offer from the 5 dynamic and talented acts (Josh Needs, Jeffrey Chan, El Pollo, Key To TheHighway and Fandango) that were selected by the public in the lead up to last night’s grand finale. Styles and instruments varied from guitarist/vocalists to keyboards and even a double bass! The final band to play was Key To The Highway and they rocked the place with a highly energetic vibe that got people dancing then cheering for more at the end.

After a short interlude the judges gave their feedback  in an open and honest manner but there was no doubting the winner – the very popular Key To The Highway! The polished 5-piece from Sydney took to the stage once more and showed their winning class to the cheers of ‘encore’

Don’t fret if you missed it however as Key To The Highway will soon commence their Wednesday weekly residency at Marble Bar and I, for one, highly recommend you check them out (and try one of the daiquiris too!)
