Cinnamon scrolls have officially escaped the bakery and landed somewhere far more indulgent: the freezer aisle. The latest creation from Maxibon is the new Maxibon Cinnamon Scroll, and it’s essentially what happens when your favourite warm, sticky bakery treat gets invited to a very chaotic ice cream party.
If you’re already a cinnamon scroll obsessive, prepare yourself.
The new creation starts with a dough-flavoured slab swirled with sticky cinnamon syrup, which is sandwiched between two golden biscuits. But Maxibon wasn’t content to stop there. The whole thing is then flipped, dipped in cream cheese icing and finished with vanilla crumb pieces. In other words, it’s a cinnamon scroll that has been given the full Maxibon treatment and we’re here for it.
There’s no denying cinnamon scrolls are having a moment. From hour-long bakery queues and viral homemade recipes to enormous loaded buns and the inevitable sticky fingers that follow, the humble cinnamon scroll has become something of a cultural phenomenon. And if TikTok is anything to go by, we’re nowhere near peak cinnamon, with the #cinnamonroll hashtag racking up more than 3.5 billion views.
Maxibon’s answer? Take everything we love about cinnamon scrolls – the doughy sweetness, sticky cinnamon, creamy icing and vanilla crumble and turn it into an ice cream sandwich. Genius? We think so.
The first thing you’ll notice is the combination of textures. There’s the soft, dough-inspired ice cream slab, sticky ribbons of cinnamon syrup, the satisfying crunch of Maxibon’s signature golden biscuits and then that sweet, creamy icing coating on top. It’s basically a cinnamon scroll and ice cream sandwich having a very delicious baby.
The cinnamon flavour is the star of the show, but the cream cheese icing and vanilla crumb pieces add another layer of sweetness and texture that makes every bite feel suitably decadent. And while traditional cinnamon scroll etiquette might involve pulling apart the layers and saving the gooey centre for last, Maxibon has other ideas. This one is apparently designed for eating from the middle first.
Honestly, there are no rules here.
If you’re a fan of cinnamon scrolls, Maxibon or generally combining two excellent desserts into one, the Maxibon Cinnamon Scroll is a pretty easy recommendation. It’s nostalgic without being old-fashioned, indulgent without taking itself too seriously and has enough textures happening at once to make it a genuinely fun ice cream experience.
It’s also the kind of dessert that feels perfectly suited to a midnight freezer raid. No bakery queue, no waiting for the icing to set and absolutely no judgement if you eat it while standing in front of the freezer.
The Maxibon Cinnamon Scroll is available exclusively at Woolworths in four-packs for RRP $11.50, or you can grab a single serve at Ampol for RRP $5.60.
So, cinnamon scroll lovers, consider this your sign to skip the bakery queue and head straight for the freezer. Just don’t blame us when you find yourself eating it from the middle first.
