If there’s one thing Australians love (other than a Shoey and a stirring rendition of Land Down Under), it’s a limited-edition dessert. And this one might be worth blowing the macro count.
Gelato Messina and Kiwi chocolate legends Whittaker’s have teamed up to create Caramel’s Gone Bananas – a ridiculously indulgent gelato flavour inspired by Whittaker’s cult-favourite Banana Caramel block, which has already caused a stir across the ditch in New Zealand and has now landed on Australian shelves.
Launching today (Tuesday 30 June), the limited-edition flavour is available at all Gelato Messina stores nationwide – but only while stocks last. So if your dessert personality is “try it before it disappears forever”, this is your moment.
And because a new Messina flavour is already an event, the brands are making the launch even sweeter with a giveaway that will have chocolate lovers moving fast.
The first 50 people at every Messina store nationwide who purchase a scoop or tub of Caramel’s Gone Bananas will score a free Whittaker’s Banana Caramel Block to take home. That’s right – gelato now comes with a side of chocolate. (A very convincing reason to skip dessert at home and head straight to Messina.)
So, what exactly is in the scoop?
Caramel’s Gone Bananas combines banana and Whittaker’s Creamy Milk chocolate gelato, swirled with vanilla caramel and loaded with chunks of Whittaker’s Creamy Milk chocolate brownie. Basically, it’s the nostalgic banana-and-chocolate combo we all know and love, turned into Messina’s signature over-the-top gelato creation.
The collaboration celebrates the arrival of Whittaker’s Banana Caramel block in Australia – a creamy milk chocolate block packed with banana and caramel flavours that quickly became a fan favourite in New Zealand.
“We know Australians already love the combination of banana, caramel and our Whittaker’s Creamy Milk, so partnering with Messina to bring those flavours to life in gelato form felt like a match made in dessert heaven,” said Holly Whittaker, Co-COO of Whittaker’s.
And when two brands with serious cult followings join forces, expectations are high. Messina is known for turning unexpected flavour combinations into sell-out sensations, while Whittaker’s has built a loyal following thanks to its famously creamy chocolate.
