I’ll admit it.
If given the choice between cake and cheese, cheese wins every single time.
So when I heard that Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park was launching a High Cheese experience in partnership with internationally renowned cheese expert Will Studd, I immediately stopped what I was doing and paid attention.
Launching from 5 June to coincide with National Cheese Day, the new offering takes the hotel’s iconic High Tea experience and gives it a decidedly more savoury, sophisticated twist.
And honestly? It sounds like a dream for cheese lovers.
Available every Friday at The Gallery, High Cheese has been designed as a relaxed end-of-week ritual. Think less finger sandwiches and macarons, more artisan cheeses, baked camembert and a glass of wine overlooking Hyde Park.
The menu kicks off with a selection of savoury bites including Whipped Galotyri Crostini and Fried Aphrodite Haloumi, before moving into what is undoubtedly the star attraction: a curated cheese course featuring Roquefort, Brillat Savarin and Manchego, served with traditional accompaniments.
For those wondering whether dessert still makes an appearance, don’t worry.
There’s a playful sweet course featuring:
π§ Basque Galotyri Cheesecake
π§ Le Dauphin Double CrΓ¨me Profiterole
π§ Manchego & Orange Blossom Friand
And because no high tea-inspired experience would be complete without scones, guests can finish with baked camembert, feta and chive scones alongside raisin bread.
Honestly, this is exactly the kind of Sydney experience I love discovering.
It’s familiar enough to feel comforting, but different enough to make it worth booking.
What elevates the experience further is the involvement of Will Studd, one of the world’s most respected cheese experts. With more than 50 years of experience championing artisan and traditional cheeses, Studd has become a global authority in the cheese world and remains a passionate advocate for exceptional dairy producers.
Priced at $75 per person, High Cheese includes a curated cheese stand for two alongside tea and coffee, with guests able to upgrade with a wine pairing featuring Tyrrell’s Estate Grown Chardonnay or Shiraz for an additional $20 for two people.
Set within the elegant surrounds of The Gallery at Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park, this feels like the perfect excuse to gather a friend, escape the office early and ease into the weekend with great cheese, good conversation and a little indulgence.
And if you’re asking me whether cheese deserves its own version of high tea?
The answer is absolutely yes.
