The dinner party is having a moment. Not the actual hosting part. Nobody wants that.
Nobody wants to spend Saturday cleaning their apartment, lighting candles they bought six months ago, pretending they know how to arrange flowers or discovering at 7:14pm that they forgot a crucial ingredient.
But the idea of a dinner party? The long table, excellent wine, food arriving in waves and conversations that somehow stretch for hours?
That bit is back.
Which may explain why Tilda’s new Fire & Wine series feels less like a restaurant promotion and more like Sydney’s most organised dinner party.
The one-hatted restaurant inside Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has taken three things that consistently improve an evening – live fire, excellent wine and somebody else doing all the work – and bundled them into a new Saturday night offering that’s surprisingly difficult to fault.
Every week, guests settle in for a seasonal menu built around the restaurant’s woodfire grill, while in-house sommelier Paul Sadler raids a wine list that happens to contain more than 1,000 bottles.
It’s essentially the fantasy version of hosting. All the atmosphere. None of the washing up.
Ps: Can’t commit to a full sit down situation?
To celebrate National Martini Day, this weekend Bar Tilda will have a Martini Fountain on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th June, serving $12 Grey Goose Tini Martinis throughout the evening.
A fountain pouring $12 Grey Goose Martinis? Say less.
