In 2026, The Phantom of the Opera will make a grand return to Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour for a strictly limited season from 27 March to 3 May, marking the beginning of the global 40th anniversary celebrations for the world’s most iconic musical.
This is no ordinary production.
This is Phantom staged on an epic, custom-built stage floating over Sydney Harbour, with the Sydney Opera House glittering in the background, nightly fireworks illuminating the sky, and pop-up restaurants and bars lining the waterfront. It’s one of the most breathtaking theatrical experiences on earth, and the only place where audiences can witness The Phantom of the Opera brought to life under the stars in such spectacular scale.
Directed by Australia’s master storyteller Simon Phillips, with audacious, sculptural costumes and sets by Gabriela Tylesova, and choreography by Simone Sault, the outdoor staging elevates the show’s most iconic moments. Expect the mirror scene, the descent into the Phantom’s lair and the legendary chandelier to unfold with even more drama, ambition and visual impact against Sydney’s glittering harbour.
The production first premiered at Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour in 2022 and became the highest-grossing show in the event’s history. Now, thanks to overwhelming demand and soaring advance sales, the 2026 season has already been extended by an extra week.
