If you thought your chocolate block could only ever be, well, a chocolate block, Whittaker’s and Lode are here to prove otherwise. For two days only, Lode’s Surry Hills bakery is swapping its usual signage for Cafe Whittaker’s, and every pastry, cookie and drink on the menu has been rebuilt around the brand’s brand new Berry Biscuit block.
Credit goes to the team behind the cult NZ chocolate brand and Federico Zanellato’s beloved Surry Hills institution, who’ve joined forces to give Sydney’s chocolate lovers a very good excuse to queue before 8am.
Not sure what Berry Biscuit even is? It’s Whittaker’s newest flavour: creamy milk chocolate studded with tangy berry pieces and crunchy cocoa biscuit. For this takeover, that block gets reimagined across cookies, bomboloni, croissants, cakelets and drinks, Because apparently one format was never going to be enough.

“Whittaker’s Berry Biscuit brings together our super smooth, Creamy Milk chocolate with tangy berry pieces and crunchy cocoa biscuit. Launching it through our Cafe Whittaker’s activation with the incredibly talented team at LoDe felt like the perfect way to introduce the new block. It’s a fun, immersive experience that gives Chocolate Lovers the chance to enjoy the flavour in an entirely new way,” said Holly Whitter, Co-COO of Whittaker’s.
“We loved the idea of turning LoDe Surry Hills into Cafe Whittaker’s for a couple of days. Collaborations like this give us the chance to have a bit of fun while showcasing what our team does best, taking great ingredients and transforming them into pastries and baked goods that people hopefully haven’t experienced before,” said Federico Zanellato, founder of LoDe.
It’s only happening for two days, and knowing Lode, “sold out by lunch” is less a warning and more a certainty. Set an alarm.
