There are a few things we can count on when Aussie winter rolls around: consistent complaints about the sun disappearing by 5pm; the stylish combo of Kathmandu puffas and Haviana thongs; and restaurants finding increasingly delicious ways to put truffles on everything.
And, the good news is whether you’re a truffle obsessive who starts counting down the second winter arrives, or someone who just enjoys eating expensive ingredients shaved dramatically over dinner, we’ve found plenty of ways to get your fix
From truffle-loaded Asian feasts to pasta dishes that practically demand a close-up, these three Melbourne restaurants are making the most of those fleeting weeks when this fancy little fungus gets its moment in the spotlight.
Cha Ching Has Given Its Asian Favourites a Truffle Upgrade
Truffle and Asian cuisine might not be the first pairing that springs to mind, but Cha Ching is here to make the case.
The Flinders Lane favourite has launched a seven-course Winter Truffle Banquet featuring premium Western Australian black truffle threaded through some of its most-loved dishes.
Think truffle pork and prawn siu mai swimming in truffle miso broth, torched wagyu beef tartare topped with black truffle mayo, and a fried rice situation that has been upgraded with crab, prawns, seasonal vegetables and, naturally, plenty of truffle.
At $99 per person, it’s a pretty convincing reason to skip cooking at home this winter.
Lexy Is Going All In On Truffle
If your idea of a good night out involves bold flavours, late-night energy and dishes that make the group chat jealous, Lexy’s new Truffle Menu is calling.
The $169-per-person menu takes the restaurant’s signature Asian fusion style and adds a generous truffle twist, kicking off with charred edamame and Pacific oysters before moving into dishes like akami tuna temaki, cured Ora King salmon and Black Opal Wagyu Cube Roll MB9.
The real winter comfort moment comes via the truffle mushroom claypot rice, while dessert doubles down with a charcoal waffle cone filled with white chocolate truffle ganache.
From Here By Mike Is Putting Truffle On (Almost) Everything
Finally, celebrating its first year at 1 Hotel Melbourne, hatted restaurant From Here By Mike is marking the occasion with a limited-time Truffle Series Feed Me menu – because apparently one year of being excellent deserves a very truffle-heavy celebration.
The menu is exactly what winter dining dreams are made of: thick-cut sourdough with truffle butter, cheesy lasagna layered with fresh truffle and a tiramisu finished tableside with a generous snowfall of the good stuff.
Basically, if your winter dining strategy involves leaning into comfort food but making it fancy, this is your move. Just don’t leave it too late … truffle season waits for no one.
