UDL Double Crush 8% Review: A Bigger, Bolder Take on a Classic Aussie RTD

UDL has always held a special place in Australia’s premix history. Since 1965, it’s been the go to for simple, easy drinking RTDs that don’t take themselves too seriously. Now, with the launch of UDL Double Crush 8%, the brand is stepping into a much bolder space while still trying to keep that familiar, fun DNA intact.

This new range marks UDL’s entry into the high strength RTD category, tapping into the growing demand for flavour forward drinks with a bit more kick. At 8% ABV in a 375ml can, it is a noticeable step up from the classic UDL range, designed for those who want more impact without sacrificing drinkability.

What stands out immediately is that Double Crush does not feel like a complete reinvention. Instead, it feels like UDL turned the dial up rather than changing the station entirely. The focus is clearly on flavour first with bold, balanced flavour rather than overly sweet or heavy profiles. These cans are easy to drink, but with a more noticeable strength behind them. It is a balancing act, and it works perfectly!

The flavours: tropical, punchy and designed for repeat rounds

The Double Crush range launches with three 375ml variants, each sitting at 8% ABV and clearly aimed at flavour driven drinkers.

Orange and Mango

This one feels like the most approachable of the trio. It is bright, citrusy and tropical, with a juicy sweetness that leans into classic RTD territory. Easy drinking, familiar, and likely the crowd favourite.

Guava and Lime

Arguably the most interesting of the range. The guava brings a soft tropical base while the lime cuts through with a sharper, zesty finish. It feels fresher and less sweet than expected, which helps balance the higher ABV.

Pineapple and Passionfruit

This is the boldest and most vibrant of the three. It delivers a strong tropical hit upfront, but finishes cleaner than older style premixes that can sometimes feel syrup heavy. It is punchy without being overwhelming.

The key takeaway with Double Crush 8% is that it still feels very much like an RTD you can enjoy socially without it becoming heavy or cloying too quickly.

Higher ABV premixes can sometimes tip into being overly sweet or syrupy, but this range does a decent job of keeping things balanced. The flavour profiles are strong enough to carry the alcohol content, which makes the 8% feel integrated rather than bolted on.

It is clearly designed with at home occasions and pre drinks in mind, where drinkers are looking for something convenient but with a bit more impact than standard strength cans.

UDL Double Crush 8% is available now at independent bottle shops nationally and online via Sippify.
