Happy Lunar New Year everyone! To celebrate the New Year The Galeries on George Street will be running exciting festivities until the 13th of February. The precinct will feature a contemporary interpretation of the traditional festival for Sydney siders who are looking for a modern, original way to celebrate the Lunar New Year with innovative food and art.
Capturing the cultural excitement of the celebration four large scale installations will greet shoppers as they enter The Galeries. The Artasia laneways will be representative of Lunar New Year celebrating nations Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and China with artworks produced by emerging Sydney artists Stellar Lunar, Chris Loutfy, James Jirat and Chris Yee.
No celebration is complete without a feast and The Galeries has dining offerings full of traditional flavours. From fine dining at Lotus, Malay cuisine at Jimmy’s Recipe to Bento at Hotto Motto’s first Australian store and Chat Thai, it’s difficult to choose!
The Galeries will be hosting a one of a kind, Battle of the Woks on Thursday 2nd of February, between the Head Chefs of each restaurant. Overseen by Adam Liaw, of Masterchef fame, shoppers will have the opportunity to taste samples from each and vote for their pick in a People’s Choice Award. Battle of the Woks is the perfect way to find your new favourite Sydney restaurant.
On Friday 3rd February customers will also be treated to the AYAM Zodiac Roulette. The roulette is a world-first technology that matches customers to their destiny dish by analysing their Chinese Zodiac and Western Star signs. By entering their birth date the AYAM Zodiac Roulette will analyse the customers’ personality traits and provide them with their specialised dish, dispensing a key ingredient in the process. Encouraging customers to cook at home, the roulette allows shoppers to have their own Lunar New Year cook off.
