FREE KFC Alert: Stranger Things x KFC Opens Secret Underground Diner in Sydney

Sydney, dust off your Walkmans and grab your Eggos… because something strange (and seriously delicious) is happening beneath the CBD.

In a world-first crossover, KFC is teaming up with Stranger Things to open a subterranean pop-up straight from Hawkins, Indiana. Yes, you read that right: a fully immersive underground KFC, hidden inside Sydney’s abandoned Wynyard Station Tunnels, complete with 80s vibes, neon weirdness, and free fried chicken. This one isn’t just an activation: it’s an experience.

From 28–29 November, the Upside Down rift cracks open and Hawkins Fried Chicken comes to life… and trust me, you’ll want to be one of the first through the door.

Welcome to Hawkins Fried Chicken: Sydney’s Newest (and Strangest) Secret

Step inside and you’re instantly transported to 1987.

Think Stranger Things tunnel portal → retro Hawkins diner → neon, synth, nostalgia → glorious fried chicken smells.

Expect:

  • A meticulously recreated 80s Hawkins diner
  • Vintage jukebox bangers
  • Arcade machines ready to gobble your coins
  • Exclusive KFC menu throwbacks revived from the archives
  • FREE chicken all day long
  • The brand-new Upside Down Double before it launches nationwide

This is your chance to live your full Stranger Things fantasy without needing to battle any Demogorgons. (Bless.)

Meet the Upside Down Double: KFC’s Wildest Feed Yet

Launching nationally from 2 December, the Upside Down Double is the kind of creation that would make Eleven ditch a waffle in a heartbeat.

It features:

  • Two crispy KFC fillets (the “buns”)
  • A soft bun in the middle
  • Cheese
  • Bacon
  • And KFC’s brand-new Stranger Sauce

It’s crunchy, saucy, chaotic… and honestly, an 11/10.

Sydney fans heading to Hawkins Fried Chicken get first taste rights before the rest of the country. Consider it an exclusive preview from another dimension.

Nostalgia, But Make It Fried: 80s Menu Items Return

Just when you thought it couldn’t get cooler: the pop-up is reviving retro KFC icons, including:

  • The Works Burger
  • 80s Bean Salad
  • Saucy Wings straight from the Secret Menu
  • Original Recipe buckets (obviously)

All FREE. No catch. Just turn up and embrace the 80s.

🎤 From KFC HQ

Vanessa Rowed, CMO at KFC Australia, sums it up perfectly:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to unite the passionate KFC and Stranger Things fandoms through our immersive Hawkins Fried Chicken experience, and bring the deliciously strange Upside Down Double to restaurants nationwide.”

Same, Vanessa. Same.
