New Mum, Who Dis: Sydney’s Getting a Breakfast Club Just for Mothers

We love a girls’ trip to the playground as much as the next person, but let’s be honest: making small talk while simultaneously stopping a toddler from eating bark chips is not exactly conversation. Enter The Mama Breakfast Club – the new Sunday morning takeover happening at The Botanica Vaucluse that swaps the swings for a proper sit-down, a mocktail in hand and zero interruptions from anyone under three feet tall.

The Deets

Mama Societe is teaming up with The Botanica Vaucluse on Sunday 27 September, 10:00am–11:30am, to throw Sydney’s mums a breakfast that’s less “quick coffee before school pickup” and more “actually finish a sentence.” Think garden-framed surrounds, a Mama Mocktail to kick things off, a granola cup, and your pick of two dishes from The Botanica’s fully gluten-free kitchen (yes, actually gluten-free – they’re one of the few restaurants in Sydney certified by Coeliac Australia, so no cross-contamination anxiety here).

Tickets kick off at $69, or go the full glow-up with the $150 Breakfast + PJs package, which comes with limited-edition custom pyjamas made in collab with Midnight Mischief. And in genuinely lovely news, $5 from every single ticket goes straight to The Pyjama Foundation, supporting kids in foster care across Australia – so you’re basically doing charity work over granola. Big win!

Why It’s Happening

The idea came from The Botanica’s Venue and Events Manager (and new mum herself) Sara Paganelli, who knows firsthand that “getting out for breakfast and having a proper conversation” hits different once you’re in the trenches of early motherhood. As she puts it, the goal was simple: “beautiful food, no pressure and a room full of women in the same season of life.” Translation: no judgement if you rock up in the same outfit as yesterday, because same, always.

The Botanica’s owner Evette Moran is equally on board with the bigger picture here, pointing out that the best hospitality “has always been about what happens around the table, not just what arrives on it.” She’d genuinely rather you walk away with a new friend than just a full stomach — which, in a city not exactly famous for making new mates past your twenties, feels like a bit of a public service.

Where To Find It

The Botanica Vaucluse is tucked away at 2 Laguna St – the kind of leafy, produce-driven, quietly glamorous spot that makes you feel very “Eastern Suburbs Sunday” the second you walk in, helmed by co-head chef Abby James (ex-Quay, so you know the food’s not messing around).

Bottom line: trade the wine-and-whine mums’ night for mocktails, matching pyjamas and a breakfast you can actually eat without cutting someone else’s food first. Grab a ticket, bring your best conversation, leave the sippy cups at home.
