If you can’t wait for Sculpture by the Sea to return in November then you’re in luck as a major new art event, Sculpture at Barangaroo, opens this weekend at Sydney’s spectacular Harbour foreshore park, Barangaroo Reserve.
Sculpture at Barangaroo is presented by Barangaroo Delivery Authority in partnership with Sculpture by the Sea, which has been delighting Sydney with its outdoor exhibitions along the Bondi coastal walk for almost 20 years and runs from 6-21 August 2016.
Free to the public, the temporary exhibition is the first exhibition of its kind to be held at Barangaroo Reserve and will transform the six-hectare headland reserve into an open-air sculpture park to capture the imagination of Sydney and its visitors. As any fan of Sculpture by the Sea knows, it’s the perfect opportunity to get up close and really personal with the works of art. The sculptures aim to engage the senses as well as the imagination as you explore the sculpture trail at your own pace along the Harbour foreshore promenade, Wulugul Walk to Nawi Cove, and up to Stargazer Lawn and Walumil Lawn.
The exhibition will showcase 14 outdoor artworks by a stellar line-up of 15 Australian artists, including senior, established, emerging and Aboriginal artists. The collection includes eight new works and six existing works that were selected specifically for exhibition at Sculpture at Barangaroo and some of the sculptures will grow and evolve over the 16 day period.

On the opening day there will be a stunning performance by Jannawi Dance Clan at 12pm on Walumil Lawn which will contribute to the evolution of the Barangaroo Dreaming sculpture. In addition, a series of free talks by exhibiting artists will be held outdoors at the Reserve among the sculptures on weekends during the event. To round it all off there will be a special celebration to mark the first birthday of the stunning Reserve on Sunday, 21 August 2016. It will start at 10am with a Welcome to Country on Walumil Lawn and a performance by Sydney Children’s Choir overlooking Sydney Harbour. There will also be the cutting of a birthday cake and 3,000 free birthday cupcakes (first come first served). There will also be many activities including a Pop Up Nature Playground in the Cutaway, an Orienteering Race around Barangaroo Reserve, roving music and theatre performances plus a delicious selection of food and beverages available to purchase. Visitors are also welcome to bring a picnic and enjoy lunch among the sculptures on the last day of Sculpture at Barangaroo.

Barangaroo Reserve is easily accessible by public transport and on foot from Circular Quay, Walsh Bay, Millers Point and The Rocks. The closest train stations are Wynyard and Circular Quay.
