A select handful of Sydney’s music industry, media and some lucky fans were whisked off to The Island for an exclusive Channel V Island Party last night with UK outfit, The Wombats.
Arriving on their own private speedboat, the Liverpool three-piece looked in awe as they stepped onto the floating pontoon and took in Sydney’s stunning harbour views.
The rain stopped and the retractable roof opened up just in time as they got going with hit Your Body Is A Weapon before ramping up through classic numbers including Jump Into The Fog, Moving to New York and Techno Fan.
Tracks from their new upcoming EP, Glitterbug, including Greek Tragedy and Emoticons got a great reception before everyone’s favourite, Lets Dance To Joy Division, got everyone jumping up and down. Singer Matthew Murphy was slightly nervous that we may all fall into the sea and get eaten by sharks, but got involved never the less!
A fantastic night and one that no one will forget for a while. To watch a live recording of the gig, tune in to Channel V on Tuesday 3 March at 7pm.
