Autumn racing season kicked off Saturday with Tooheys New Golden Slipper Day held at Rosehill Gardens. Australian Turf Club international ambassador, Nicole Richie caused a crowd frenzy with her appearances on the day. She wore a tight-fitting, black zebra print Balmain dress and black headpiece over her short pink hair.
First posing against the race course with the Club’s CEO, COO and Chairman, Nicole was quickly rushed off to the Myer Enclosure to lend her expert style eye to the Fashions on the Field judging panel. Alongside fellow judge Jodi Anasta, who chose a see-through lacy dress by Toni Maticevski and spiky headwear, Nicole stood with winner Regina Thai, who took home the Best Dressed Women’s Raceway title and a cool $18,000 in prizes. Regina fulfilled the Autumn racing dress code in closed-toed heels and a felt hat, both accessories to a basic grey Asos dress.
Nicole Richie Tweeted after the day: “The atmosphere was electric at @rosehillgardens. I had a great time judging @MYER Fashions on the Field @atc_races.”
In the afternoon, the spotlight shifted to Gai Waterhouse as she claimed her sixth Golden Slipper with her horse Vancouver winning this year’s title.
“I always had confidence in the colt. And I knew that we had the fillies that were very, very good. Dad would’ve been so proud of him, because he is exactly what he looks for in a horse. He just ticked every box, all the way along. Every time they said he couldn’t, he did,” she said.
Giddy up, we can’t wait to see what else is in store for this eight-week racing season.
