We’ve done the hard work so you don’t have to. Here’s our top pick of the gigs you gotta go see this month:

ALABAMA SHAKES

Alabama Shakes

Thursday 2nd April 2015

Enmore Theatre, Newtown

Low down and downright dirty, Alabama Shakes will be headlining The Enmore with their one and only Sydney sideshow before heading up to Bluesfest. The Grammy nominated US rock band, led by the gravelly vocals of guitarist Brittany Howard, will deliver a soulful performance laden with their signature chunky, bluesy garage rock style, with new material from their upcoming album Sound & Color and some favourites for good measure. You know you got to Hold On…

RODRIGO Y GABRIELA

Rodrigo Y Gabriella

Thursday 9th April 2015

Sydney Opera House, Sydney

Perhaps surprisingly, one of the most memorable performances by far from the iconic Pyramid stage at last year’s Glastonbury Festival; the acoustic guitar duo return to Sydney to electrify another legendary stage in the Concert Hall, following their debut sell out show in 2014.

Fusing flamenco with heavy metal (yes, really) the Mexican maestros will be performing classics and tracks from their fourth album, 9 Dead Alive. Expect epic riffs, huge passion and a technical talent that will blow you away. The chemistry alone between these two is enough to give you goose bumps. If you haven’t seen Rodrigo Y Gabriela before, make this your first time.

SAM SMITH

Monday 27th & Tuesday 28th April 2015

Hodern Pavillion, Moore Park

If you are lucky enough to have nailed a ticket for one of Sam Smith’s two shows this month then get very excited. The soul singer, whose silky vocals are responsible for Disclosure’s breakthrough smash ‘Latch’ and Naughty Boy’s ‘La La La’, has just announced a second night at the Hordern Pavilion with Monday night completely sold out.

Having cleared up at literally every music award ceremony across the globe; Grammys, Brits and a Gold album in Australia with his heartbreakingly honest debut “In The Lonely Hour”, Sam Smith is riding a career high as he brings his tour to Australia. This is a your chance to see a soul legend in the making.

CHARLIE XCX

Wednesday 29th April 2015

The Metro Theatre, Sydney

After joining a certain Ms Azalea and providing the vocals on that ‘Fancy’ record that went virtually under the radar *coughs* …Charlie XCX is back in Sydney to prove her pop princess credentials. Mind you, now that she’s on to her second album, and with four platinum-selling singles under her belt, including ‘Boom Track’ and ‘Break The Rules’ (yeah, you’ve heard it), she doesn’t have to prove anything to us really. But we’re buzzing, that she’s here and you would be a SUCKER not to see her.

Other picks:

Get well soon Patrick Carney. Instead, go see… BAND OF SKULLS, Thursday 9th April – Oxford Arts Factory, Sydney

Take your MumCOUNTING CROWS, Thursday 10th April – State Theatre, Sydney

School DiscoBLACKSTREET, Saturday 18th April – Hi Fi, Sydney
