To celebrate summer, the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) are hosting Up late with The Greats, a series of late openings with free events on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights throughout January. If you have ever wanted to experience the AGNSW without the pesky kids but with a glass of something alcoholic in your hand, now is your chance.
The Gallery is open until 10pm on Wednesdays- Fridays, so you can you really take your time to experience the greatest collection of old master paintings ever assembled in Australia in the exhibition The Greats: masterpieces from the National Galleries of Scotland. Many of the other galleries on the Ground Floor plus the cafe and CHISWICK at the Gallery are also open and free to visit and to spoil you even further, the AGNSW is also putting on free extras!
On Wednesday nights join them for a special edition of Art After Hours with comedian Hannah Gadsby, live music from Monsieur Camembert Quartet, guided tours and films. More information
On Thursday nights the Gallery’s entrance court transforms into a grand drawing salon for beginners and experienced artists alike. Be inspired by a tour of the drawings in The Greats then drop in and sketch away to the sounds of classical music. More information
On Friday nights take a musical journey through Europe as members of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra perform classical musical recitals inspired by artworks in The Greats. More information
And don’t forget to try out the pop-up bar, where they’ll be pouring the latest creation from boutique brewers Young Henrys – a limited edition beer inspired by The Greats. Check out this video which explains how they came about the beer.
