Starlight Children’s Foundation are looking for 2,000 volunteers to help make this year’s Starlight Day a rip-roaring success. With a fundraising goal of $1.3 million, the proceeds will go towards helping 33,000 seriously ill children and their families across Australia.
On Friday 5th May 2017, thousands of volunteers dressed in purple and yellow will descend the streets around Sydney, Melbourne and Perth’s central business districts and train stations to sell Starlight merchandise and collect donations. And you can get involved too.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Starlight Children’s Foundation, their mission is simple: to brighten up the days of seriously ill children and bring joy back into their childhood through play and laughter. And they don’t stop there; they also know that families are the main source of support for sick kids and therefore include the entire immediate family (parents, siblings etc.) in their efforts.
This year, Starlight are opening three new Starlight Express Rooms in hospitals across Sydney, Perth and Melbourne and recently opened a new room in Darwin. These rooms allow sick children and their families to escape the pain and struggles of medical treatment and just have fun. In the company of Captain Starlight, they can momentarily forget about operations, medication and endless tests and just enjoy being kids.
Raising just $39 can help Starlight provide a child access to Starlight’s hospital programs including Captain Starlight and the Starlight Express Room. So what are you waiting for? Grab your friends, get involved and help bring a smile to a child’s face. A small effort on your part could make an enormous difference to a young family’s life.
