On Monday 12th January, St.George OpenAir Cinema hosted a VIP preview screening of WILD in association with 20th Century Fox. Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line), nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance, took to the screen in this powerful story of self-healing, based on the best-selling memoir by Cheryl Strayed with screenplay by Nick Hornby (An Education).
Sydney Social 101 was lucky enough to be invited to attend the screening and the film is truly magical – Recce is outstanding in her performance as Cheryl and the Oscar buzz is not without warrant!
Guests included comedian Mary Coustas, actor Lisa Hensley and producer Michele Bennett, Kate Waterhouse and husband Luke Ricketson, TV presenters David Whitehill, Luke Jacobz and Sophie Falkiner, actor Henry Nixon (The Kettering Incident, Sleeping Beauty), Sydney Swans player Adam Goodes, Michael Caton (Packed to the Rafters), Sophie Lowe (After the Dark), David Berry (A Place to Call Home), Natasha Bassett (Mental) and director Kim Mourdaunt and producer Sylvia Wilczynski (The Rocket) with partners.
On arrival, VIPs enjoyed drinks and canapés on the deck with stunning harbour views of the Sydney Opera House. As the sun set, the audience took to a 2000 seat grandstand to watch WILD on a three-storey-high screen that rose from the harbour to create a cinema experience unrivalled anywhere in the world.
