GRACE JONES Carriageworks
Sunday 31st May – Tuesday 2nd June
A Vivid highlight for me; The glorious Grace Jones. Singer, songwriter, model, actress and global style icon; this enigmatic lady is nothing short of a legend, and and an indisputable influence to so many contemporary artists over the last three decades. With a third show now added due to demand, this will be a memorable performance; an electrifying display of disco funk at it’s finest and a visual spectacular, you’re in for a treat.
**Update: The 67-yr old hula hoops naked on stage and looks better than you. Outstanding.
CROOKERS Courtyard @ Ivy
Sunday 7th June
A pretty decent way to spend a Sunday; Crookers returns to the Ivy in the Sydney leg of the Australian tour. Now flying solo, Italian DJ/Producer Francesco “Phra” Barbaglia is back and will be performing Crookers’ latest studio album ‘Sixteen Chapel’. This is an electro house set that is dead cert to get that rooftop pumping.
MAI KHOI Newsagency
Here’s a tip off; Mai Khoi is set to play an intimate acoustic gig at Newsagency, Marrickville. Her sound: An award-winning amalgamation of soul, blues, rock and Vietnamese folk music (check it out). The acclaimed and controversial singer has toured both Australia and the US, drawing critic comparisons to Madonna and Lady Gaga. Definitely one to watch.
TIM ROGERS & THE BAMBOOS Metro Theatre
Friday 19th June
Having already seen The Bamboos funk it up a notch or two earlier this year for Twilight at Taronga, I’m pretty excited about this meeting of two Aussie heavyweights. Coinciding with the launch of the album ‘The Rules of Attraction’ – which is thoroughly worth wrapping your ears around- You Am I front man Tim Rogers brings swagger to the Melbourne soul group and will deliver more of the same chemistry (echoes of Primal Scream?) featured on ‘I Got Burned’.
**FESTIVAL ALERT: Splendour In The Grass RESALE tickets available Monday 1st June from 9am. This is your last chance– get on it!!! **
