After a year of obscurity, an Aussie icon is making a comeback.

Opening this Friday 9 October at midday – here at Sydney Social 101 we’re thrilled as it was one of our faves – amazing atmosphere, good drinks and fun and friendly staff!

For 140 years, this backstreet local has served as a place for residents of Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, Zetland and Alexandria, to meet and relax.

In restoring this old beauty to her former gritty glory, the owners have gathered together a team passionate about sharing food and stories in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

The menu (designed by Glebe Point Diner’s Alex Kearns and Head Chef Jon Cowan) includes classic dishes with European inspiration, twists and nods. Chicken Liver Parfait, Ricotta Gnocchi and the Panzanella are dishes to look out for. And of course no pub menu would be complete without a cracking burger. Or two.

General Manager Tom Harrison heads the pub, having spent the last few years as GM at Kitchen By Mike. Tom brings with him vast experience from Europe in casual service environments, and will deliver a fun and relaxing atmosphere.

The wine list features local and European products with a focus on affordable quality, while the beer range will be succinct and on trend.

The Bourke Street bar has a good old-fashioned pub vibe, calm and sultry; a place where locals and their friends meet to have a drink, a laugh and a bite to eat. Patrons can grab a stool at the bar or perch themselves at the window seat, watching the world pass them by.

The leather-clad benches and large tables in ‘The Poke’ create intimate spaces for groups to gather day and night.

The Arthur Street garden bar at the back is something else! Unique and inviting with an abundance of plants, it’s a great space for occasions ranging from private functions, to cheeky little date-nights, to watching sport on a Sunday afternoon.

This is the first venue for owners Roger Gregg and Luke Butler, who spent many years working together at The Keystone Group. Their search for the ideal location has been a fruitful one, and both are elated by the chance to return this historic pub to its former glory.
