The global spotlight was on the harbour city today as the Everest Carnival celebrated its pinnacle event with the $14 million The TAB Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick.
Twelve of the best sprinters vied for honours in the world’s richest turf race, with three-year-old colt Yes Yes Yes and jockey Glen Boss taking out the main prize for Chris Waller Racing.
A star-studded guest list appeared trackside including 2019 Everest Carnival Ambassador, Channel Seven’s Home And Away actor James Stewart, The Everest VIP Fashion Guest Clementine McVeigh, Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Klim, Seven’s Rugby Olympic Gold Medallist Charlotte Caslick and partner Lewis Holland, The Star’s VIP Guest Erin Holland and trainer-jockey Michelle Payne who graced the track alongside her beloved brother Stevie Payne.
Australian pop-sensation, Ricki-Lee Coulter, also performed singing the national anthem prior to the running of The TAB Everest.
International superstar and recording artist Kelly Rowland is set to steal the show after the final race of the day, performing a free concert for celebrating racegoers.
Style-savvy racegoers were out in force entering the esteemed Harrolds Fashion Chute competition hosted by Channel Seven’s Angie Asimus and judged by 2019 Everest Carnival Ambassador James Stewart, GQ Editor, Michael Christensen, milliners Viktoria Novak and Carole Maher and Harrolds Womenswear Buyer, Roshali Kaul. Men’s and Ladies Best Dressed Racewear went to Viera Macikova and Rob Lee at this year’s The Everest 2019.
The sun shined all day long over Royal Randwick and the fashion, hospitality and entertainment provided a wealth of colour and movement trackside; with 15,000 Champagne corks popped, 10,000 soft drinks sold, 10 tonnes of ice provided, 30,000 glasses polished, 1,557 ATC staff including 1,036 serving food and beverage, 251 customer service attendances, more than 200 chefs and 250 security guards were for this event alone.
