This week, the world’s first indoor trampoline park Sky Zone Australia celebrated its 1st birthday and held the Big Air Festival, a night full of action, extreme sport and exhilaration.
Sky Zone boasts hundreds of trampolines, all connected to form one massive trampoline that literally allows you to jump off the walls, and partnered with Red Bull to host the inaugural 2015 Annual Wall Running Competition on behalf of the AWA (Australian Wall-Runners Association) and the Air Skate Showcase, the first of a yearly tradition.
Sky Zone Australia’s Chief Operating Manager, Blaise Whitnish said: “Wall Running is an artistic sport that Sky Zone fully supports. We saw some amazing talent at the Big Air Festival and we’re pumped to make this an annual event. We look forward to hosting more events of this nature and watching this extreme sport increase in popularity at Sky Zone!”
Wall Running is similar to parkour…but with a trampoline. It combines the thrill of racing up a wall vertically with tricks, flips and twists. With interest from budding Wall Runners from across the country, the AWA held heats and the top six entrants from Brisbane, Canberra and Sydney were flown in to battle for first place at the Grand Final in Sydney, Alexandria.
Finalists included Cooper Larkins, Jordan Reed, Marcus Gangell, Jacob Hunt, Kris Simpson and Aron Mahuika, with 15 year-old Jacob Hunt from Brisbane taking out the grand prize of $5000, plus an annual Sky Zone jump pass. All finalists took away prize packs including gifts from brand partners Uber, Spotify, Glue Store and Drom Clothing Co. Guest judges included Red Bull athletes Mikey Mendoza, Ryder Lawson, Olympic athlete Ji Wallace and Alex Vans-Colina from Warner Music.
Two of Australia’s most promising skateboarders Mikey Mendoza and Ryder Lawson, who were joined by BMX bandits Jack Zammit and Cameron Wardell, headed the Air Skate Showcase.
With over 300 guests in attendance, notable guests included The Roundabout Crew, comedian Frenchy, Jake Rich from Channel 9: Big Brother 2014, Maxi from Bondi Rescue, pro-surfer Indy Clinton and former elite gymnast Lauren Hannaford. Sky Zone created an energetically vibing evening for everyone that combined extreme sports, flukey fitness and a sneaky sweat on a Monday night.
