In an area that is a real treasure trove for cool cafes, Waterloo’s newest installment, Barista & Cook, brings together an obsession with coffee, a world-class chef and an inspiring design concept to create a dining destination to rival the best in Sydney.

Whether you’re a health food junkie or after something a little naughty, Barista & Cook delivers on both fronts. Mouthwatering options range from their chia and coconut pudding brekkie, acai bowl and fresh juices to get your day started right, through to their southern fried chicken, grilled mac & cheese toastie and signature coffee slider with icecream, toasted brioche and honey when you feel like putting the calorie counter away for the day!

The cafe might be new to the scene but the experience behind it is not, with owner Alan Thompson boasting six years as previous owner of amazing Surry Hills cafe Bang Bang.  Alan says that the vision for Barista & Cook is simple. “Beautifully presented, contemporary cafe food made with love, and quality, barista-made Gypsy Espresso coffee.”  Barista & Cook is a coffee aficionado’s heaven, with the cafe’s dedicated brew bar serving filter and pour over coffee such as Chemex and V60 using single origin beans.

Teaming up with Thompson is the head chef of Barista & Cook, Adrian Borg.  Borg brings over 10 years of fine dining know-how to the table from both here and overseas, including running the kitchen at Ashfield’s Excelsior Jones.  His food reflects his his vast range of experience, with a constantly evolving seasonal menu inspired by seasonal produce, wholesome eating and current trends.

With a Scandinavian-inspired design concept including whitewashed walls, hanging succulents and an abundance of comfortable seating to create a bright and stylish atmosphere, Barista & Cook makes the perfect destination for locals, workers and students, as well as becoming a new fave for the Saturday morning breakfast crowd.
