Last night, some of Sydney’s finest gathered in the Cellar to celebrate the new late night Mexican eatery and tequila bar.
In the heart of the CBD, owners Nicole Galloway and Peter Lew (and the Mariachi band) welcomed a slew of VIPs, media and friends with their famous Tommy’s Margaritas carried over from big brother venue, Barrio Chino.
In the spirit of late night trade patrons partied into Thursday morning sipping on the venue’s Naked Lady (strawberry infused agudo blanco, cointreau, lemon, and bitters), Bodega Vistalba ‘Progenie’ Bubbles (Argentina) and Mexican cervezas (beer).
Items off the Mexican street food inspired menu circulated the venue, starting off with Market fish ceviche tostadas, Barrio corn spoons with chipotle, feta and lime and fried olives with dulce blue cheese dip.
VIP guests included MTV VJ Krit and health blogger, Caroline Groth as well as neighbour and Fei Jai regular, Channel 7’s Jim Wilson. Wilson raced around the corner to check out the new watering hole as soon as he got off air, joining industry heavyweights and the couple’s restaurateur friends from fellow Sydney staples Rockpool, Chinadoll and Bondi’s Best.
Making their way around the Luchetti Krelle designed space were Barrio Cellar’s Mushroom tacos and Carne asada (skirt steak) skewers with chimmichurri sauce and the adored Barrio Hamburguesa. Presented to guests in one hand friendly sliders, these favourites include pickled jalapeños, chimmichurri mayo, chipotle mustard, cheese and red onion.
DJ sets from Jonny Pow, Sam Francisco and Murat Kilic added a little sugar to the rim… just in case the Churros sticks with dulce de leche weren’t enough.
June was a busy month for the owners as Barrio Cellar isn’t the only new addition to Galloway and Lew’s family. Nicole recently gave birth to second son Freddie, whilst opening the pair’s third Sydney venue.
Giving you plenty of reasons to pop down any day of the week, the bar has recently introduced their Barrio Happy Hour as well as midweek specials (listed below).

Monday–Thursday 4-6pm $10 Tommy’s Margaritas, $5 draft beer, 2 for 1 bubbles by the glass.
Monday: All burgers and tortas are $10 (Hamburguesa, Barrio Cubano, Carne Asada, Street Style Dog)
Tuesday: All tacos are $3 (All meat selection, all seafood and mushroom too)
Wednesday: $1 Wing Wednesdays (in all 5 flavours)
Thursday: $30 bottle of bubbles
Friday/Sat: Djs
